coach must've been livid since now that other pitcher can't come back

We had our left fielder pitch a ball from the rubber walking out to his position in men's league Baseball. He had to pitch to one batter.

In baseball and or softball the first person to pick up the ball and make an attempt to pitch/touch the rubber they are then classified as the pitcher and they must face the first batter in order for there to be an pitching change

I’m confused why would she face the batter? Did the coach make a change to the field? EDIT: she had to pitch because otherwise it could be perceived as a tactical manipulation in a lot of the rules since she stepped on the pitcher plate. EDIT 2: and since people here need more context because they think I’m making the claim the 11 year old (or however old she is), did this on purpose, I’m saying because she pitched on the plate, the ump has to follow the rules so that it’s fair for the other team even if this was on accident! To the other team and girls the pitch could look like the fielding team switched pitchers and confuse the first batter, and give the fielding team an advantage on outs. Therefore the umpire followed through on the rule to prevent that, and had her pitch to one batter. That’s why last night in another comment I left on a response, I said “I’m glad I my team never made this mistake on accident when I was younger”

I actually think this is a pretty funny and lighthearted way to deal with the situation. A bit annoying but hey like umpire could have just been a D and ejected her.

I can see the logic... pretending to make a change to a different handed pitcher could mislead the other team into changing their lineup too. But this clearly wasn't that so, I mean, I'd ask the other coach... seems harmless here.

Seems like an idiotic rule at this level and the umpire should have some discretion. This is *obviously* not a tactical manipulation, ffs.
