What Happened to Cybill? It was a critical darling with a promising first season. Cybill Shepherd, already a proven Hollywood star, led the show as the sharp, glamorous Cybill Sheridan. Alongside her was breakout star Christine Baranski as the fabulous, scene-stealing Maryann Thorpe — a role that earned her an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress. But Christine's success turned out to be the beginning of the show's undoing. This is the story of how one of the most promising 90s sitcoms spiraled into backstage chaos, massive ego clashes, and self-destruction — leading to one of the more abrupt and frustrating endings in 90s television. Here's what really happened to Cybill.

Christine Beranski basically was Karen Walker before will and grace
I only ever saw a few episodes of Cybill, but it was the first thing I ever saw Christine Baranski in, and I immediately became a fan.
Christine Baranski carried whatever that show was. She can act circles around Cybill.
Christine was totally the breakout star.. loved her and everything she’s done since.
So Cybill Shepherd who was a nightmare in Moonlighting was also a nightmare in Cybill? This is my surprised face.😐
it borrowed EXTREMELY heavily from Absolutely Fabulous which originated 2 years earlier and was a massive hit , Edina has 2 ex husbands a drunk glamorous best friend and a pious disapproving daughter .. cybil's elder daughter is basically irrelevant in the show .
I'd believe Cybill in what she says about Les moonves. He's the guy that tried to wreck Janet Jacksons career because she refused to personally apologize to him for the whole Superbowl thing (despite the public apology). There's a load of allegations on him
Christine Baranski was and still is a helluva lot funnier than Shepherd. Shepard's ego could not handle that. END OF STORY! 🤨🤨😌😌
They had watered down Baranski’s character so much by the end that she wasn’t even given funny lines - and she was the ONLY reason the show worked.
Mary Ann walk so Karen Walker could run 🙌🏼
Notice how everything Cybill has worked on becomes a train wreck behind the scenes? What's the one common denominator? After a while, if wherever you go chaos and feuds follow, maybe look in the mirror instead of pointing fingers everywhere else cause the one thing they all have in common is YOU.
Christine Baranski in this show is my spirit animal🖤
Cybil Shepard couldn't be happy that Christine Baranski won an Emmy. Instead of rejoicing her good fortune, she actually said she felt "what about me". She is a rather selfish person.
Its weird to think that a decade before Cybill the series the protagonist of the show was far better known that Bruce Willis. By 1995 Willis was firmly established as an A lister a position he would hold until the early 2010s while Cybill was staring in a sitcom lampooning her decline as an actress.
It was trying to ride the success of Absolutely Fabulous where 2 women are friends, drink, and have a caustic, outrageous wit.
Watching that show it was clear what was going on as the seasons went on. There were episodes in the later seasons where Christine’s character barely spoke and the whole vibe of the show was thrown off kilter. Cybil might’ve been right that it could’ve gone on more seasons, especially back then when lame shows could still have decent runs by appealing to middle of the road audiences. But this show started out very good then just kept getting less and less funny because giving Cybil all the punchlines ruined the rhythm.
Baranski was great-!- If I NEVER hear Cybill sing again it will be too soon-!
That (absolutely well deserved) Christine Baranski Emmy killed the show. Once that happened, Cybill was just a parade of red flags. You could practically SEE the rage in her.
Funny thing about mean girls is that they rarely grow up to become nice girls. They’ll always have petty jealousies of other women, and use manipulative, childish behavior towards men.
Loved the first few seasons. Was a huge Cybil fan from Moonlight and Alicia Witt. Baranski was fab in it..credit where its due.
