Fascinating video about one of the most intriguing lakes in the world. I have always loved nature programs that feature this incredible body of water. The fact that it sits on a rift zone makes it even more fascinating. I believe that there is a huge lake in the African rift zone that also features unusual geology and an incredible diversity of life. Hopefully you will feature that lake soon. Actually, you could spend months exploring all of the unusual lakes along the African rift zone. None of this takes anything from Lake Baikal. Thank you so much for posting this very intelligent video‼️👍🏻

I think about this lake often, and every time, I am pleased and slightly amazed that it exists.

Lake Baikal is also the setting for one of the stranger naval conflicts ever. The Czechoslovakian Legion defeated Bolshevik Red Army ships there as part of their epic overland adventures getting home. It’s a fun footnote, because Czechoslovakia was a landlocked nation. Lindybeige has a great video about their journey. Well worth a listen

This is amazing. I usually fear deep water, oceans and seas and what lives there but this is amazing.

Absolutely amazing! Always thought Lake Superior was the largest fresh water lake, but Baikal is so huge it’s bigger than all the Great Lakes combined! Insane! You learn something new every day! 👍

One of my favorite books is “The Natural History of the USSR”, touching on so many of the fascinating eco-systems in that part of the world, and Lake Baikal has always fascinated me. Nations change, but nature remains. Thanks for this amazing video! “One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.” — Ecclesiastes 1:4

I think it’s worth noting that while it holds more volume , the surface area is much smaller. Lake Superior is more than double its surface area for example, so time it would take to sail across or how large it is perceived, is greater for the Great Lakes , or some anyway.
