There is no compromise on self respect.
None of this matters when you simply wish well for everyone and keep yourself soft and protected.
This reframes forgiveness. You can forgive someone and still recognize that their behavior is a pattern, not an exception. Forgiveness isn't amnesia.

It's the "I didn't mean that" that gives it away; I remember realizing the apology was just a pause in their pattern, not a change in their character. You have to see the history to understand the motive.
This is tough for people who grew up in an abusive environment to understand.

If an apology is followed by a change in behavior, keep on going. If an apology is followed by the same old behavior, leave.

I’ve always tried to be nice and considerate to people but I have been walked over because of that. It’s a fine line between being nice and letting people know you have boundaries. ✌🏻

I have had friends for over 30 + years and we made it through all the ups and downs. Hurting someone once depends on the situation. Hurting someone on purpose will show someone's character right away .
I've done and said things that I felt so guilty about that I never said or done them again. We're human, it happens and we learn from it.
