You forgot gaslighting
This video is 50% me worrying I'm being manipulated and 50% worrying about manipulating others.
They say 'you’re too sensitive'—but maybe you’re just finally noticing the pattern they don’t want you to see
Love this video it not only makes me watch out for these thing amongst other people...but it also makes me think about my own actions
'Most' of these problems can be solved by just walking away
There’s two types of people watching this video
The Darvo thing was nearly how every negative interaction with my mom went growing up.
I've never heard the term DARVO before, but it's something my ex was a master at. When she did something terrible, and I politely brought it up to understand why she acted that way, she would get angry, push buttons until she could get the tiniest rise out of me. Once my calm demeanor cracked in the slightest, she would then say that the reason she did the thing she did was because I yelled at her. (Welcome to borderline personality disorder logic)
DARVO tactic is very common with narcissists. For anyone who missed it, the approach recommended here is to remain calm and keep the person accountable by keeping them on topic. My suggestion is anyone who uses DARVO tactics isn’t worth talking with, avoid them at all costs. They have more in common with an aggressive chat bot than they do with a human with a conscience. If it is impossible to avoid them because they’re a member of your family, I am sorry to say the cost of therapy to undo the pain they cause is comparable to the GDP of a small nation.
Growing up is realizing my mom did all of these and I spent my childhood being manipulated💀
The most important thing to remember while watching this, is to note if you might be unconsciously showing these manipulative tactics in your relationships. It can be harder to notice it in ourselves than it is in others.
This video hits harder when you realize manipulation isn’t just what others do to you — it’s also what you sometimes do without even noticing.
The worst thing is that there are people out there who actively use such manipulation techniques without being aware of it themselves. I think that is what makes them even more dangerous. It becomes nearly impossible to confront or address their actions and the only solution is that you must cease all interaction fully
5:55 When my dad tries to "this person thinks that you..." me, I usually answer him : "And what do you think?". It doesn't win arguments but it forces him to speak for himself instead of hiding behind someone. Also it makes him as ill at ease as he tried to make me.
I read You Know Everything by Daemon J. O. on Amazon and it hit me that I’ve been using books as an excuse to not do anything. Closed it halfway through and forced myself to talk to a random person at a gas station. Was shaking at first but by the end we were laughing about the dumbest thing. That one move felt better than months of “studying.”
The "you forgot gaslighting" comment made me realize how much I miss online humor like that joke
6:17 This "white knight" reminds me of USA😂
Sounds like my ex
'You don't need permission to believe your own experience' I think this is a really powerful sentence. Not only when someone tries to gaslight you, but also in other situations where something happened and no one believes you. Other people not believing you or putting your story down doesn't make your experience invalid, fake, exaggerated or dramatic. You have to remember what happened and what you felt and you should never have to doubt yourself in those situations.
One thing to say, not everyone who manipulates is a narcissist. Sometimes, people manipulate as a trauma response. Some people learn it from family and don’t even realize they’re doing it. Because it’s all they’ve known. Either way, it’s still destructive.
