AlzInColor Community Conversations - Raising the Volume on Brain Health with Robert Reid

Activism

In this conversation, AlzInColor sits down with Robert Reid, Care Partner, Black Dementia Minds member and AlzInColor Community Advisory Board member, to discuss brain health, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, caregiving, early detection, and the importance of having open conversations about memory and thinking changes. Recorded at the 2026 ALTER Dementia Summit in Atlanta, Georgia, this interview is part of AlzInColor's "Raise the Volume" initiative and storytelling campaign designed to elevate the voices of individuals living with dementia, caregivers, youth caregivers, advocates, faith leaders, and community champions. Through authentic stories and lived experiences, these conversations help: • Increase awareness about Alzheimer's disease and related dementias • Encourage earlier conversations about memory and cognitive health • Inspire adopting healthy lifestyle practices that promote brain health • Reduce stigma surrounding dementia • Support caregivers and families • Recognize early warning signs • Encourage early testing and diagnosis • Promote health equity and culturally relevant education • Inspire hope, action, and community connection Community members and leaders can serve as trusted voices, playing a critical role in bringing brain health information into everyday conversations and encouraging greater awareness, understanding, and action. By sharing their experiences, they help individuals and families feel empowered to navigate their journey. By 2030, nearly 40% of people living with Alzheimer's disease in the United States will be Black or Latino, making brain health education, awareness, and early detection more important than ever. Watch, reflect, and share this conversation to help move our communities from silence to support—and from stigma to understanding.
