Why stay in one spot? Slow travel baby!! Im 64 on 2600 SS just popping around 2/3 months here in there in SE Asia, and Eastern Europe wondering life!!
No doubt Evan … you’ve never conveyed anything but honesty ( from my perspective), and it has been nothing but positive and helpful.
I just got back from a 14-day trip to Da Nang, Vietnam, on Thursday. The entire round-trip was booked with points: 125,000 Singapore Airlines miles outbound and 68,000 ANA miles inbound, all in business class. While I was there, on day one I had a slip and fall, two broken ribs, and went to Vinmec Hospital in Da Nang. I booked an appointment through their app, saw an orthopedist almost immediately, had an X-ray and ultrasound, picked up my prescriptions, and was back on the street about three hours later. Total cost was about $300. My hotel cost around $650 for the two weeks. The complimentary bedbugs were not listed as an amenity, but they were definitely included. Food and beer for the entire trip came to roughly $400. Even with the unexpected hospital visit and hotel change, I spent far less than I would have for a comparable vacation in many other countries. Vietnam continues to be one of the best values I've found for short-term travel.
Time to do some other topics. You do a version of this video every week.
Great. Could you do a video on slow nomad travel? Some of us don't want to settle down in one country, but would rather hop from one to another every 60-90 days.
Flight from NY to Vietnam in mid January costs $963 round-trip right now. I just happened to check it out yesterday
Cost of living is low if you live like the locals ( Vietnamese ), most of the people that make videos ( Youtubers ) on YouTube do not in any way live like a local, they live like a tourist which is going to be more than 3 times the cost of a local.. Ponder this, if a local can live comfortably on less than $500 a month and I mean comfortably, so can anyone if they really want to live like a non tourist.

One bed apartments that are upper middle class western style with a balcony are easily 15-25 million a month right now. If you just want a window studio style spot with decent furniture it's going to run you 13-18 million vnd, if you can even find a spot that isn't full. These are the same properties that were going for 7-9 million last year. What everyone says is 20-30% inflation is more like a 100% increase year on year. Just over a year ago you could find a cheap base to travel in and out from for 4-6 million a month. Impossible now. People also forget to mention that most are only willing to give you the property on a minimum 3-12 month contract, with a 1-3 month upfront rent and deposit, and they are legally allowed to increase your rent even if the contract you signed was a certain rate (one of our places a few months ago told us 4 months in that our rate was going up from 10 million to 13.5 million, with only 2 weeks notice) Overall as a couple in a upscale area with all the spas, activities, relaxation, dates a month is going to run you at the very least 3000-4000$. Saying this as someone who's lived here for a long time and seeing the change. No complaints at all but just some real numbers. Don't expect to find a nice flat with a balcony for 400$ a month, and if you do be prepared to pay 2000$ for 3 months rent and deposit, and be locked down for a 12 month period. Can be a big mistake if you're new to the city and don't know what energy you want day to day or the property ends up having mold and doesn't give you a refund. Travel safe.

At 1:10 - there is a thin white line around you - and the lighting looks really balanced in contrast to the background hot sun area. Are you really there?
Cheap and exspensive are relative terms. If you cant make budget and stick to it in your home country...you wont do in SE Aisa.
Is there a way to contact you? I am a Canadian from Alberta and I will be back there in October, God willing. I have some questions about Vietnam and would love your input. Thanks. Your videos are really great.
wait, if he's really on the beach, what is that weird green screen looking edge around him?
Most people talk about ridiculous budgets
Numbeo: Cost of Living in Da Nang is 66.8% lower than in Boulder, CO (excluding rent). Cost of Living Including Rent in Da Nang is 71.2% lower than in Boulder, CO Restaurant Prices in Da Nang are 78.8% lower than in Boulder, CO. Groceries Prices in Da Nang are 63.8% lower than in Boulder, CO I've been to Vietnam twice, I was there a year ago. I've lived in the Boulder County, Colorado area for 38 years, thankfully I bought my place 16 years ago and I rent rooms to offset the mortgage. But at 65 I'm tired of living just to pay all the ridiculous bills, HOA fees, taxes, you name it. When I visit Vietnam or Thailand, or Japan, life there makes sense. Now if I can figure out how to move there with my dog?
Hi Evan, I have been following your advice and info from your channel as a loyal subscriber, and I truly learned so much about Vietnam from you. I am from an English-speaking country and want to come to Vietnam to teach English. I already have 2 undergraduate degrees to my credit, and I am currently working on the TEFL qualification. I know the TEFL Certificate is available to be viewed online by the school/employer, but would I need to bring my original degree certificates with me to Vietnam to apply for a teaching position or would copies suffice? Please clarify?
Any cost of living examples from Na Trang or Pho Quoc? Vo tang?
Where do you go when Immigration Agent says "beat it"?
You are 100% Evan. I moved to SE Asia several months ago and constantly find my budget is upwards of $2,500 to $4,500 depending if I mostly stay home or travel. There is no $1,000 or $1,500 retirement unless you stay home by yourself and count every dime. If you want to tour, eat out, date and have fun then be ready to open your wallet.
