Can you still retire on a beach for next to nothing? In this video, we go back to a beachfront property in Roxas City that has completely transformed over the last two years! Meet John, a Canadian expat who managed to lock down an incredible beachfront rental for just 13,000 PHP ($200 USD) a month—with electricity and utilities INCLUDED! Instead of moving into an expensive, modern concrete house that traps heat like an "Easy-Bake oven," John used traditional Filipino building materials (Nipa and bamboo architecture) and native engineering to build an open-air tropical paradise with perfect airflow. We’re breaking down the exact renovation costs, how he found this hidden gem on Facebook, and why investing money into a rental property can completely change your quality of life abroad. 💕 too much investment in time and money with no ownership 🎉🎉🎉🎉
They've made it their own piece of paradise... Well done! I really like the place! For the immersion into PH, I think it's perfect... A better beach life indeed, and quite a contrast from North America, especially for those of us originally from the north side of the continent! I've sinced lived in many different places and situations, with accommodation that varied from a GP Medium tent to a tarp or even an old dilapidated shack in Hungary way back when... Believe me, that place is NICE! 😅 Kudos to them! Good episode, Michael... 🌴👍😎👍🌴
Good on him, found his paradise on a budget.
im sure the owner loves the upgrades
3:55 All that concrete pavement outside the building also emit HEAT. 🥵🥵 Let the ground BREATHE, people! Plant trees, walkways, shaded seating areas, KUBO instead.
This guy was so hard to understand … at first I thought it was an audio issue …
A good location and a bit of space are important. If you have that, all you really need is a big TV, a comfortable bed to sleep in, and food on the table. You don't need luxury to have a great life, and he seems happy, which is what matters most. For most people, though, it's not that easy, you need a bit of luck, like John.
I like how he kept it original Philippines way 👌
Take my hat off to him. Customised the way he wants it, and for that low a rent, he's quids in, even after paying for the upgrades.
didn't a korean american rent this in another video?
yeah Mike that is a different place now. nice!
Sunshade might help, but white roofs are underrated. Hard to believe almost nobody has one.
Good job!! it looks great. I did a similar thing in Porac Pampanga.
another shitty concrete box on a shitty beach, nice radiant heat off the concrete all night...add bugs, barking dogs, roosters = retirement heaven
That's my Starbucks coffee expense for a month.
NOt bad at all. Keep it up.
If you’re low income, this is a steal. The dried fish is an extreme no for me as I despise all seafood. But hey enjoy living like a Filipino and those steps up and down Never live oceanfront unless you have a great boat.

Wow! I can't believe it has been 2 years. Man, time just flying! Feels like 6 months.
The best feature is the basketball court.
