The craziest thing is that b=3 is only possible if we do (bxb) first and then add the other b. But if we do (b+b) first, if doesn't do 12. So, should we make it clear by using parenthesis?

This is an excellent question about hubris. I forgot PEMDAS and went 2b^2=12 with b=+/-square root 6.

Does no one in the comments know how to factor in their heads?? Like I get plugging in works fine but factoring it really isn’t that hard and it’s faster to factor in your head than go through a bunch of numbers to plug in

Its b = 3 and b= -4. Just b = 3 means your answer isnt complete = you are wrong.
