The History of Earth's Moon: How A Disaster Created Life & The Moon | Catastrophe

Education

In this truly spectacular documentary series, we go on a journey through the history of natural disasters. We'll be investigating from the planet's beginnings to the present, putting a new perspective on our existence and suggesting that we are the product of catastrophe. For each disaster led to another leap forward on the evolutionary trail form single celled bacteria to humankind itself. In the opening episode, we'll be looking at the story of Earth and it's difficult birth. The formation of our moon set us on a unique course to being a planet ripe for life. It's difficult to imagine that the moon was actually born from one of the most violent and potentially devastating events in history. Four and half billion years ago, in the chaos of the early solar system, a Mars-sized planet smashed into our young Earth with such force that it sent rock debris hurtling out into space. This was how the moon was formed. ►Subscribe – http://goo.gl/wpc2Q1

The circumstances explained are incredible to get to where we are now, there's so much logic and evidence though. This will generally be my understanding of how we randomly got a moon the size and distance away of a gas giant's, when we haven't see this with any small rocky planets except ours, I don't think. It does seem very lucky, our entire solar system seems full of lucky circumstances for us. Life could possibly evolve in a slightly different ways each time, to many events maybe just not as well as it has on Earth. Regardless it's undoubtedly because of Luna, and this great doc brings the science to understanding mankind's unanimous love them over the millennia. We know we wouldn't be here without you! I don't know how I could even contemplate this but, I wonder if Luna will completely drift from Earths pull one day. Sad prospect but they'll have done so much for all life and our home while together.

Does that explain the other two hundred moons in the solar system?

Really well done! Nice to see an objective documentary. One that doesn't insult your intelligence.

A small query...with the moon drifting further away and consequently the tides slowing down, is the earth rotating at the same speed?? Which otherwise as per the theory would have increased. Regards

The biggest most important lesson i have learned from science in my 60 yrs of life is, You cannot believe ANYTHING science says ! The harder science declares something to be true the more you can trust it is a lie.

I glad you mentioned that astronauts have been to the moon 6 times. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people saying the moon landing was fake and their #1 reason is because supposedly we went to moon in 1969 but haven’t been back since… despite having all the technology we have today.

The moon is like 911. Seems bad at first but actually a blessing when you think about it 🙌

I respect science. However I am of the opinion that no scientific theory can accurately explain the origin of life. We can only speculate, but there is a mystery behind the origin of life.

There are some math here that don't compute they say as follows: Distance between earth and moon ~240.000 miles Moon moves away at roughly 1.5 inch a year Moon are roughly 3.500.000.000 years old So 1 mile = 63360 inches Distance to moon in inches = 240.000 * 63360 = 15.206.400.000 inches Years to move 15.206.400.000 at 1.5 inch per year = 15.206.400.000/1.5 = 10.137.600.000 years or 10.1 billion years Or Earth / moon distance = 15.206.400.000 Time passed since moon formed = 3.500.000.000 years 15.206.400.000 / 3.500.000.000 = 4,34468271285714 inch per year Or rounded, the moon moves away at approximately 4,4 inch per year
