Join scientists as they grab light from across the universe to prove quantum entanglement is real. #NOVAPBS Official Website: https://to.pbs.org/3vqiMpg Einstein called it “spooky action at a distance,” but today quantum entanglement is poised to revolutionize technology from computers to cryptography. Physicists have gradually become convinced that the phenomenon—two subatomic particles that mirror changes in each other instantaneously over any distance—is real. But a few doubts remain. NOVA follows a ground-breaking experiment in the Canary Islands to use quasars at opposite ends of the universe to once and for all settle remaining questions. So how does the particle know it is being observed?
Water precipitates so doesn't technically disappear or we can always measure its mass after it precipitated.
Einstein's work has been fundamental to all of humanity.
Really enjoying these NOVA series. Thank you for posting on YouTube.
Aired January 2019. Entanglement is a fact not a "prediction".
Anyone here watching this documentáry in Brazil in 2026?? Like It
Fantastic! I love how explanatory this was to the point where I actually understood quantum entanglement. Now that it’s been 2 minutes since I’ve finished it, I don’t understand it anymore 😂
Highly recommend pbs channels for physics, especially if you’re a first gen college student. They provide excellent gists of physics, often providing scaffolding for potential careers.
I watched the 2nd show of NOVA and never missed a show for over 20 years. Nothing to do on a Tuesday night at 8 pm
Fascinating. I’m not a physicist or mathematician, but in watching this I have a question I’m sure someone with those backgrounds can help me understand. Couldn’t the properties of the photons be changed when initially influenced by the source? Then, when compared at a distance, the properties would be the same? Part of this could be how hard it is for me, without the background, to understand the concept that these particles don’t exist until we measure or detect them. I wish the video explained this better. In my head, the instant the source impacts the photons, the properties of all of the photons would change, seemingly making perfect sense that their properties would be correlated when detected at a distance.
why quantum physics defies logic is because we humans are wired that everything we see is just extension of our present understanding. but quantum world which is just micro version of our present world is completely different and has brand new set of physics laws. THIS IS JUST PULLED OUT LOGIC FROM DISCUSSION. THIS IS MIND BLOGGLING AND UNBELIEVABLE AT THE SAME TIME.
I’ve never missed a PBS documentary. From American Experience, Secrets of the Dead, NOVA to Frontline – they’re all amazing. PBS has been with me since childhood, and to me, it’s the best television there is. For those who don’t know it, I truly feel sorry for them.
Im so very very happy to learn about professor: Albert Einstein✌🏻😀💎💙
Ever notice when you look at someone they suddenly notice and look immediately back? Without a word or movement of your head.
The last idea... WOW
just goes to show that there's just a very fine line between a fool and a genius - put them in a room together, and they'd probably get along well.
The quasar experiment assumes that the quasars are random i.e it isn't affected by our thoughts. What if we affect the quassers just by thinking to use it .
Spent all day working on my thesis now im lying in bed watching a video about quantum physics to relax 😂 as if my brain hasn't been hammered to pieces already 😂
I got chills all over my body when the quasar light chose the same filters.
It's amazing to see the amazing work physicists have done to reduce spatial concepts to a computer screen for a nebula dynamic pellucid.
