Stefan being a php fanboy much? As most videos are all about php, being the backend leader language.. if you want to be self employed (aka freelancer). ok, let's see: It's the end of 2024 already, there many competitors that have massive usage in the business world. Focussing only on php, will get you only employed for/at very small businesses mostly (the bakery, the butcher, a local specialist company, those type of sites), big(ger) corps usually use different languages these days. In essence: working for little sites = php (see above for examples), working for large sites (e.g. large webstores, etc) and services (streaming/api's, finance, ai, etc) or other products (desktop/mobile apps) = no php. Just factual data here. (look at vacancies, actual job lists on the employers websites for the proof: barely any php at the larger corps: Java/C#/Python/Typescript are the main contenders there) Not saying php is bad, or slow, or anything. It's just fallen quite a bit of the popularity wagon in the (bigger) business world. It has is uses, mostly for small scoped projects (again, see above for examples), without much users daily. so if you want to have these small scopred projects as you bread and butter income, fine.. do that. but if you want to get serious, working on really interresting things, don't go for php.

I've known PHP is a very on-demand programming language, I have a question, what about Clojure? I really wonder what if I switch from Javascript to this one

PHP is good enough to do 99% of the work :) And as comment: Hosting for anything else then PHP has another level of cost.

Before even watching the video, I'm gonna go out in a limb and say - Javascript or Python? Did I get it right?

Are companies posting WP, PHP and/or JS work location agnostic? I live in a tiny corner of Asia, but freelance is what I want to do.

Hey boss, how long would it take to learn PHP for basic webapps if I have minimal experience with javascript and html/css ?

Uncle Stef, how about python freelance jobs where you perform some web scraping? I'm just shallow-learning a bunch of languages and need to niche down. But my longest/biggest investment in terms of learning is python so far. Does it make sense to switch to PHP? Is it worthwhile?

What python? And my friend said that python sucks. Was he right?. Thank you!

I agree and disagree at the same time: It's like product placement - either you create a product everyone needs (but competition is strong) or a product almost nobody needs and the few are very keen on having it. So on the other end I would suggest something that is very rare like a DBMS like filemaker or a product loved by CIOs that is not very sexy for developers like ServiceNow or SAP.
