What started as a photo of an empty yellow room and a warning about “noclipping out of reality” would grow into a massive mythology spanning thousands of levels, hundreds of creatures, viral web series, video games, and even a Hollywood movie. In this episode, I’ll explore the complete history of the Backrooms: the origins of the infamous image, the psychology behind liminal spaces, the community-created lore that transformed it into a modern creepypasta phenomenon, and the groundbreaking Kane Pixels series that brought the concept to millions. From fluorescent-lit hallways and endless yellow rooms to the terrifying mysteries hidden beyond reality itself, this is the complete history of the Backrooms. Have you done a video on the movie called left in darkness
This reminds me of a German show that visits the possibility of time travel and different realities. It’s called dark
You've got to be the best (first?) most amazing horror historian ever! Your content just gets better and comes with more informative every time! Thanks, CZ!
We read the Yellow Wallpaper in high school and I've never been able to forget it
I definitely wasn’t expecting to watch this whole thing but it was mega interesting and I enjoyed your work keep it up 👍
CZ absolutely abusing the creator voice comment widget to respond to comments is killing me 😭
I just watched the film with no knowledge of backrooms and it left me confused
You look tired you probably asleep, bro
Red = math not ELA Blue = ELA What’s next milk be for the cereal!?
In the 1980s I had an experience in Liminal Spaces. I was a Teen Visiting a hotel. A creepy guy started following me. I tried to evade him by leaving the hotel, he followed. I ducked into the Parking Garage and got into the elevator got the door shut quickly and pushed several random numbers. I got off on a random floor not looking at the number and went through a door trying to get back into the hotel. I ended up in an area of rooms and hallways that were empty. I am thinking an unused convention area. I went through a door and wound up on an elevated walkway over the street. That led to another area but this time was like an empty Mall. After 20 minutes of walking I found a door. It opened into The Mall near the hotel I was visiting. I finally got my bearings and had successfully ditched the creepy guy. The areas were very Liminal and Backrooms feeling. It was eerie and I was never able to find those rooms again.
It just reminds me of Stranger Things. The back rooms are the upside down. Async is Hawkins labs. The fungus is the spores, etc. there’s expansions and differences but this is where my mind goes
Roasting my packers like this is diabolical. Auto discred lol 14:03
Any mention of Coraline is highly appreciated by me . lol . Saw Backrooms last night and loved it . Solid 8/10 for me .
This is already one of my favorite horror movies.
The Langoliers' empty airport is the earliest example of liminal spaces I recall seeing.
I swear i remember this in 2003 but in 2019 i remember seeing it again it shook me to the core because i was like why do i know this ?have i been here?😂 i can't wait to see the movie
5:50 I've always found it a bit silly that disabling collision to allow you to clip through walls became known as no-clip when logically "no clip" should prevent clipping through walls
the movie reminded me of As Above So Below, the deeper the characters went, the more demented and twisted things became. Definitely represents the slip into madness.
IDK about ALL these images, but I definitely tell you what specifically freaks me out about the Backrooms and some of the similar images; they’re claustrophobic. No windows, no exit-doors, and in the case of some of those; a fake “outdoors” built indoors. It’s like something out of Cold-War-era bomb-shelters. 😬
Red notebook is math 🥀
