World history has never seen anything like Iran. Every empire — from Alexander the Great to the Mongol Empire — tried to destroy this ancient civilization. None succeeded. This history documentary covers 5,000 years: Cyrus the Great and the Achaemenid Empire, the battle of Thermopylae, Queen Tomyris, Zoroastrianism, the Sassanid and Parthian empires, the Silk Road, Safavid Isfahan, and the rise of modern Iran. A common misconception: in 1935, Reza Shah didn't invent the name "Iran" — he asked the international community to use it instead of "Persia." But Iranians had been calling their land "Iran" for over a thousand years before that. The word comes from Old Persian Aryānām, meaning "land of the Aryans," and appears in Sasanian inscriptions as Ērānshahr as early as the 3rd century AD. So Iran is actually the older name — Persia is the foreign one, coined by the Greeks after the province of Pārs (modern Fars).
It’s crazy how thousands of years of history can shape the world we live in today. Persia’s legacy is incredible
This is the first responsible use of AI visuals I’ve seen here on YouTube.
My respect to Iran. They have beautiful architecture and resilient people.
Iranians have always believed that they are like a phoenix: they burn, but in the end, they rise again from their own ashes.
As an Iranian from the land of Persia and the city of Persepolis, Shiraz, I thank you for creating this fascinating video. I am confident that the land of the Aryans will rise again from the ashes, and that the people of Iran, by bringing an end to the radical Islamic Republic, will build a good life and show the world that we are friends with everyone and that we love the people of the world.❤❤❤❤
From Cyrus the Great to modern Iran in 20 minutes — and not one extra second! Very high-quality content, keep up the good work!
This skipped the 1953 CIA coup Operation Ajax
It’s amazing how many layers of history exist in one country. Every generation experiences a completely different chapter.
Iran’s history won’t end in 2026
They missed the British and Americans taking of Iran's oil in 1953 and installing a ruler of their choice who'd benefit them and not Iran's best interests.
Iran is one of the sources of civilization, but it has had many enemies in every period of its history.
I'm just grateful that you found footage of all this, just proves that cameras were invented a long time ago
This was amazing. Great history lesson. I pray for the people of Iran, and just peace around the world. Only the regular people pay while the ones who profit just sit back ànd count their money.
Amazing history lesson for me. It comes on the eve of a war I have yet to understand..for lack of a better word to express my sadness. May we all seek world 🌎 peace.
They are a very infectious people very kind and gentle I admire them very much ❤
I never knew Iran originally is ancient Persia, thank you for this discovery
We will rise once again. Light always overcomes the darkness. Long live Iran. 🌞🦁
India and Persia are sister civilizations. Most of the scholars, scientists and scholars from Islamic Golden Age had Persian ancestory. None of them came from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and UAE. The wise men who visited baby Jesus were Zoroastrain Persians.
I am Iranian, this was a fairly accurate 20 minute overview.
