The Cosmic Scale

Education

How large is the universe? Where does it begin and end? How does it expand? These are some of the biggest questions of astronomy- and while humanity is so small that we may never be able to fully understand the universe's true scale, advancements in technology are helping us to look ever-deeper into space, towards the edge of our observable universe known as the Cosmic Horizon. Today, we will get to know our universe, its laws, and its awe-inspiring scale above all. And here I thought that the universe is expanding faster than the speed of light... so it can´t be the fastest thing there is, or? Also: Nothing catches ... like the Hubble deep field? Looking at this video - 5 years old - that is kind of around the time James Webb telescope launched. I feel this video is a bit outdated or its just missing some crucial information from its inception.

no reference to "The Last Question" by Asimov at the end was kinda disappointing...

Been four years since I last saw this video, this time I found myself thinking how nice it is to see which visuals creators choose when they build up their version of this type of production. Now all I have to do is get yet another TV to watch it on, now that the eyes are four years older. ...dammit... 🙂

When i lived in rural area with dark skies, i liked to watch the stars thinking on one of those planets circling one of those far far away stars, there is a lonely alien who also watches the skies thinking about other worlds.

if the space itself is stretching at such a fast speed, are the effects of it visible within our own surroundings, the atomic bonds stretching, earth getting wider. I'm having a tough time comprehending and translating the speed at which the space stretches to effects on our environment. after billions of years of expansion, is the effect now more pronounced than it was before. Is the rate of expansion miniscule in the greater scheme of things. How so? Also are there galaxies that we were able to see that we cannot see any more because they sped away from view, or rather the light stopped reaching us since the space that contains it is moving or stretching away from us

This was absolute PEAK SEA content, I would kill for handful more videos like these about the epic expanse of the universe, Galaxy clusters, the cosmic web, or some megastructures. Fingers crossed we get back some OG SEA content sometime again soon.

Imagine how lucky we are to witness true scale of the Universe, People like Newton, Galileo, Maxwell, Copernicus, etc....could only dream of being able to uncover this type of knowledge.
