The new data we're receiving from space telescopes is creating more and more cracks in our current understanding of the universe, and some scientists believe we could be standing on the edge of the next great revolution in physics. When did the first galaxies really form? How fast does our universe really move and why are the huge cosmic voids not following the cosmic principles? I’m truly obsessed with learning as much as I can about the history of the universe and I’m completely stunlocked in the most incredible way by the proposal that spacetime could have been significantly sped up for the very first galaxies created after the big bang, potentially slowing as time has passed. I’ve never heard anyone propose that, but honestly it’s really interesting. I truly love considering big ideas like this, it’s kind of terrifying but mindblowing to try to think about just how big and ancient the universe result is. We’re throwing our best tech and minds at the problem, but it feels like we’re missing a key piece of information

I can't believe how lucky I am, living in a time of such big changes within my favorite subject! I have several areas of interest, but astronomy has always been my favorite.

I always wondered if the amount of matter in the universe was more than was required of the big bang, and that the big bang was just one of many rather than a sequence, like popcorn in a bag. I'm so happy to be existing in this era!

as a PhD student in cosmology specializing in dark matter structures, i'm so excited to see what lies in store ahead of us... with new telescopes like LSST and never-seen-before amounts of data coming up, there are so many directions this can go!!! can't wait :DD

It is so on brand for scientists to learn they were wrong and become super exited little guys because they get to learn new things, absolutely love scientists

To simplify, science being in crisis means that our science wasn't accurate and a new discovery is about to be made, which is awesome.

This is how every sci fi game where humans are trapped on earth after becoming a type 2 civilization starts, the universe is far more crazy than he anticipated

Fun fact, speedometer on my dad's Honda Civic consistently reads 5km/h above GPS data, turns out it is a sneaky feature to prevent drivers who love to edge on speed limit to go over it :D

6:30 has anyone considered the big bang might not have been the first such event? Just the most recent local (as in within the visable universe) time its happened?

this is like HxH when they discover the dark continent and that the known world is just an island in a big lake
