Godot is a popular open source engine for building 2D and 3D games. It is similar to Unity in many ways, but is lightweight (35Mb) and provides it's own custom scripting language called GDScript. #gamedev #programming #100SecondsOfCode 💬 Chat with Me on Discord https://discord.gg/fireship 🔗 Resources Godot Game Engine https://godotengine.org Godot on GitHub https://github.com/godotengine/godot Unity in 100 Seconds https://youtu.be/iqlH4okiQqg C# in 100 Seconds https://youtu.be/ravLFzIguCM 🔥 Get More Content - Upgrade to PRO Upgrade at https://fireship.io/pro Use code YT25 for 25% off PRO access 🎨 My Editor Settings - Atom One Dark - vscode-icons - Fira Code Font 🔖 Topics Covered - What is the Godot Game Engine? - Open-source game engines - Godot basics tutorial - Godot vs Unity - What makes Godot special? - How GDScript works - Best Game Engine to learn for beginners

For anyone struggling like I did when trying to add the player character shown in the video here's two things you need to know. 1. KineticBody = CharacterBody3D 2. If you're having trouble trying to find out how the guy in the video added the player from a different scene into the main scene. You click on the chain icon next to the "+" and it will show any scenes you've made for that specific project. If you don't see them then it's possible you have the scenes saved in a different place that doesn't show them in your "FileSyestem" (the name of the tab on the left sidebar). You need to move your scenes outside the ".godot" file but still in the Project file of the game your making and it will pop up like normal. Hope this helps!

I will never get over the fact that this video is 160 seconds long

As a beginner game developer making my first game in Godot(a 2d rhythm game similar to phigros) I absolutely love Godot so far, gdscript has been incredibly intuitive and easy to learn so far, and I have gotten used to Godot so quickly :3
Time for a new Godot video!
Alternative title: Godot in 160 seconds
Are you telling me that I've been wasting like 50GB of my laptop for years? I mean, open source, light and you can write in c#? Neat.
2:23 WHERE THE #### DID HE CLICK?!
With all the new features Godot now weighs over 1Gb which is still insanely small relatively to other engines
This was an incredible compression of important information, wow. 20 videos in & that's the first one to explain all the important bits so quickly & clearly.
1:46 "Kinematic body" has now been renamed to "characterbody"
