One thing I like about Notepad++ is that even if you don't save something, if you close Notepad++, it's still there when you reopen it. Sometimes I use it for pure text only just because of that.

I've been coding in Wordpad since 1999. When I tell people this they do not believe me. When I started, there were no "free" development environments for Windows, and nobody told me I couldn't do that at the time. I did not know about Notepad++ at the time. Looking back, I wish I did.

I switched to notepad++ just because I was sick of notepad, I used to use Atom years ago but dropped it when it lost support. I use Notepad++ for everything from basic text editing to css themes, python scripts, json files and I absolutely adore it. I donβt do heavy programming yet (trying to learn) and itβs seriously so perfect for just getting started as opposed to me trying to use VS Studio / VS Code / Eclipse / Etc

(neo)vim is as lightweight as you want it to be and its customizability is unparalleled (well, maybe it is, in a way, parallel to vscode, but electron is heavy)

I've been using Notepad++ almost since it came out and it's been my only βdevelopment environmentβ ever since. Although I have tried others, including VS code, for me NP++ is still the best. It feels fast and lightweight, and its plugins are straightforward and to the point.

Ah yes notepad++ is my must tool since college. Features like regular expression and find in files are the best.

Notepad++, 7Zip, MPC-BE and ffmpeg are absolute gems that beat paid products while being free and open source. Seriously, Notepad++ put Windows's notepad to absolute shame, and even today, Windows 11's notepad still can't compete with Notepad++.

Notepad++ has the BEST MULTICURSOR system. It is really intuitive and works damn well. I always found it so basic but as text editor is absolutely the best.
Kate is still good enough for me on Linux
i still use it for coding games
