I did the first step of this reaction, expecting something like copper chloride that I could then precipitate into basic copper carbonate... the "copper" I had was copper plated steel in disguise (not euro cents, it was some sort of copper wire) and it left me with way too much (probably) iron hydroxide after I tried precipitating basic copper carbonate using washing soda
