I worked for two cities and had lots of contact with homeless people, in nearly every case they were alcoholics, drug addicts and mentally ill.

The problem is they resist! They are also addicted to the lifestyle. They don’t want to work or assimilate into society because they hate societal norms.
Don't forget their parents. How many were abused in one way or another at home?

I was an eligibility worker at social services in Humboldt County for 15 years. Yes, indeed over 90% of the homeless are on drugs and DO NOT want to change. The only thing they want is free money through social services and social security to support their addict lifestyle. To me, it's more than just the crimes. Leaving these people on the streets is the MOST cruel and inhumane thing we can do. These people NEED an intervention. They must be forcibly removed and either get help or be in a facility. The far left claims to be the party of love, but leaving them on the streets to rot in their addictions is hate, not love.

Wild point here. I watched a program on Iraq several years ago, and saw that the TALIBAN picked up homeless people and put them into Forced rehabilitation/detox programs till they were clean, then released them. It WORKED
I grew up with a schizophrenic brother in early 80s. No drugs involved. He WANTED to be on the streets as a lot of them do. We could not lock our home to contain him- but the law can. There was no place for him. Except a state facility. You are correct on some of this- but wrong and naive too. It is a strange condition of schizophrenia to want to be homeless. Trust me- I have spent a lifetime entrenched in this disease. Please reach out if you would like to hear our journey.
Not all of them are drug addicts. This "all homeless people are on drugs" framing is dishonest and has been disproven by multiple reports, it's not even close to "all of them". More people tend to fall into homelessness in high cost of living metro areas, and homeless people in temperate high cost of living areas are more visible because they are not forced to seek shelter from the elements, like in California. When people are mentally unwell and/or addicted to drugs, they are a higher risk to fall into homelessness. Guess what though: when well adjusted people fall into homelessness, THEY have a higher risk of having addiction or mental health problems than if they were able to stay housed. But not all the homeless population are addicts or struggling with mental health problems. The media and republican politicians want to demonize the whole group and just push them away into 'pockets' where they can ignore a major societal problem. Stop falling for those politicians and media outlets- you can start with these two here. The more we demonize our fellow citizens and pick fights among ourselves in the working class, with the help of these people, the deeper the hole we dig ourselves in as a country. When we work to fix our societal problems and not just sweep stuff under the rug, we will prosper together. P.S.: This is not an endorsement of establishment Dems either, they have done their fair share of damage. We need representation that is not beholden to private interests.

He is dead on correct and sadly, the money pumped into these programs is worth a GREAT deal of money. Those little programs do either not reach them, or it vanishes.
