You haven't seen flies until you have camped on the edge of Lake Eyre. We were there when the first water was in the lake for many years and the birds had just arrived. The flies were so bad we had to make a smokey fire and sit in the smoke to get relief. We were about 20kms from William Creek.
With all the software upgrades available for modern four wheel drives I wish you could get one for long range fuel tanks and the distance to empty features

Flies notwithstanding, I love that area for all the reasons you talk about. It's where I head to reboot and clear my head. I really enjoyed this trip and understand why it's not for everyone. Generally the weather is pretty consistent - but I've been caught out too. It's know when to hold 'em; know when to fold 'em country. Thanks for taking me along. Saturday morning with a coffee isn't the same without the Wild Bunch.

Yep the flies out there did my head in ! Did the trip 4 weeks ago and loved that whole area .. and it’s wild horses out there that you saw the droppings .
