Three out of four afghans struggle to find food, work and healthcare. Emergency levels of hunger affect almost 5 million people, meaning they are one step away from famine. It is difficult for foreign journalists to get access to Afghanistan but a BBC team has travelled to Ghor province and witnesses the crisis there. The BBC’s decision to portray a father who sold his daughters into slavery as a victim in this story is appalling. Their excusing the commodification of children to feed another sibling (their sons) is a deplorable journalistic angle. BBC is disgusting for supporting this.

Are you kidding me? You're portraying a man who is selling his daughters as a victim without even mentioning who is buying those daughters (another Afghanistan man). And what the outcome is for those girls. And that's the people and culture you are trying to import and portray as sympathetic. This is beyond evil even for BBC. This is disgusting. To think that someone could even fathom the idea of excusing this event or whitewashing it is insane to me.

What kind of twisted relative takes advantage of a family member's desperation, and buys a sick child to give to his son? I would do all that I could to support my niece and nephews if they were ill, and not expect anything in return. That's what family does.
all this suffering and yet taliban is more focused on carrying out terrorist attacks inside pakistan through its proxies. pakistan has shut down the border with afghanistan for almost a year now. more than 70% of afg intl trade was carried out through pakistan.
