Actually it DOES MAKE US BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE!

Since I feel close to just a few, I don't need to know anything about people I don't know, will never meet, and whose opinions are worthless to me. There's maybe 10 people on the whole planet whose opinions I care about. The other 8 billion plus are not mission critical to my survival. I don't need validation, approval, acceptance from anyone. I have learned to enjoy living alone and enjoying my own company. I come and go as I please without having to compromise with anyone. Been alone now 23 years and loving it! There's a reason why the cliche', "Silence is Golden," exists. There's no way to have peace of mind, when you're getting a dozen notifications every second. Never wanted that and never will.

A lot of social media is where you can get an opinion on something you didn't ask for or wanted to know about

Never really interested. I never really cared what people think. I tried a long time ago to care but it seemed pointless. I likey privacy.

My wife and I have a large social group to mix with face-to-face, and have very little use for social media.

I tried social media back in the day. I did not like it. It was way too intrusive! I dumped it and got on with my life.

Social media is just fake and flashy. People who pretend and lie about their lives, making others feel bad about themselves. Also, it makes is easier to bully others behind their screens. Why make your life pupblic. What you had for breakfast and so on. Don't get it

If you never met any of your friends in real life, they’re not your real friends.

I participate in absolutely no social media. Many years ago my daughter made me a Facebook account. Any time I went on it, I ended up in an argument with someone I've never met, over religion, politics,, women's rights, abortion, feminism. You name it, I had an argument about it. I realized one day. Do I really need this aggravation in my life on a daily basis? So then and there I deleted it. Much calmer without social media. I must be strange. But I honestly don't care what someone I'll never meet thinks about my home, my truck, my hobbies, my job, none of it. Life is so much less stressful without it.

The only social media I use is YouTube. That is if this platform counts as social media. I just waste time watching videos on here. I quit Facebook roughly a year after they stopped requiring a college email address to make a profile. As soon as Farmville became a game Everybody and their brother played I tapped out. The endless notifications for me to visit some farm from somebody I barely know in the physical world started it got so annoying it quit being fun. Quitting Facebook right out of the gate was the best decision I've ever made. I got out early so I didn't have any other options like we have today.

I wonder how old the people posting comments here are. If you are a boomer you have lived far more of your life without social media and you know life without it is just fine if not actually better. I have never done any social media except You Tube where I watch some folks who interest me largely those who are doing stuff in nature or restoring stuff. My kids never were really on social media and don’t really use much at all now. I think people are finally waking up to the fact that oversharing isn’t necessarily a great look and it prevents you from getting on and having an actual life.

YouTube is the only ‘social media’ in which we participate. Period.

Avoidance of social media occurs naturally. Years ago being present online meant something. The something amounted to nothing objectively, yet the subjective reward provided a sense of hope. The hope was misplaced but the hell, so what! Here in hell dreams of paradise begin online in social media.
