For the price of the Framework 12, you could quite comfortably get an A16 iPad and a MacBook Neo with the student discount. This just removes any potential use case for the Framework 12.
I have a “yoga style” fully folding tablet/laptop - an Asus ProArt, because I wanted a 13” screen and a dedicated GPU. You’re pretty much spot on in your interpretations. I have a stylus and it use it from time to time and it’s a novelty but I’m not a graphic designer, so that’s just for fun. I never put it down with the keyboard and trackpad on the surface. I don’t know if it would actually get dirty, but it seems like it would. I do use it in like “A-Frame Mode” to watch video so it takes up less space on a desk or airplane tray table or something. So that is a nice feature. But honestly the hinge is SO janky I’d have paid more to have it with a conventional hinge.
Great information, Jeff - as always. But that Novaspirit Tech t-shirt...RIP, Don. Respect, Jeff!
0:18 $5.99, auto captioning 😂😂😂
Framework is just too expensive. Noble goal, but hard to execute on in the current market.
Thanks for your kind tribute to Novaspirit Tech! I wanted to let you know that your gesture was not missed. We are missing Novaspirit Tech too.
Kind of irks me that you didn't mention he's stuck with 8GB RAM on the Neo.
I love your nephew giving a "normal" person's review rather than like us geeks, sometimes sweating the small stuff. Genuinely fascinating to watch and well done to the young lad on graduating! 🎉
me watching this comparison on my Macbook Pro M5 🤔why? because I love the content. Great video bro
10:18 the shirt 😭
I am really thrilled to see St. Vasilije Ostroški Monastery near Nikšić, Montenegro as screen background. It's the highest regarded multi confession religious site in Montenegro. I wonder if the background is part of installed distro or some auto-rotating background. On totally different note - I admire your videos, in particular those regarding Raspberry Pi. Your insights have steered my way more than once. Keep up the great work!
There is a cost for repairability - both monetary and in the loss of sleek packaging. If repairability isn't important to someone - I don't see how a Framework laptop would ever be the best choice for them.
Past 26 years - for my main computer I've pretty much only had professional grade laptops, whether it was my first work issued IBM Thinkpad T20(2000), later T3x, then at another job I was issued a Toshiba Tecra M5 (also workstation class), then later bought a Toshiba Tecra A11, years later still Lenovo P50, and many years later my current laptop Lenovo P15(arrived with a faulty screen, got it fixed in my home by repair tech). Very few failures, no important failures outside of warranty(past 20 years made it a point to get on site repairs just in case). My Tecra A11 and Lenovo P50 still sit on my desk along side my P15(all have their lids closed connected to external screens/etc). Never had a real need to upgrade CPU/GPU - upgrading memory/HD has been enough for me.
Maintenance ? Spare parts ? Upgrade ? opensourced OS ? Nope... Apple is a dead horse 🤓
"One of the world's biggest companies can compete better on price and quality than one of the newer manufacturers (who have far better ethics), in an effort to get people onboarded into their ecosystem and take advantage of their customer LTV and further monopolise the industry. More at ten." Sorry Jeff I'm a huge fan, and I don't disagree or doubt that the Neo is a great laptop in terms of quality and price (though probably a loss leader that they can bear the burden of in search of long term profits). But it overlooks all the issues with Apple (as a company, not this hardware) and this feels like punching down and shilling a company that only wants to continue and expand it's stranglehold, and continue it's insane profit cycle. This isn't the first video where you've featured Apple hardware where I've had similar thoughts.
Love the Novaspirit Tech T-shirt but it made me a bit sad.
Glad you did this video. It felt super off when LTT did their video comparing the neo to similar laptops and the Framework 12 was suspiciously absent. Can't imagine why...
You pay 40% more now, but when that neo quickly loses performance relavence or dies, ie needs an upgrade for any reason, then the framework has it beat every time. Knowing i wont need to buy a new shell band can upgrade to new hardware much cheaper than buying a whole new laptop in the future means im no looking at just the up front cost when k get a machine like that, i think about what happens when something dreaks or i need an upgrade
I didn't expect to see Montenegro's Ostrog Monastery in your video (4:55)
Great video! I've watched a lot of Framework reviews and I've always thought the display and sound quality were bad. No one called it out as clearly as you did as the side by side comparison to the NEO made it hard to ignore. I support Framework's mission like you but it is a bad value. Enjoy making the WAN show over this.
