Toilets should be flushable with your foot

Public toilets should absolutely be flushable with your foot, and I will die on this hill.

I saw someone complaining about people not flushing in public bathrooms, and honestly, I get it. It’s gross. But I also understand why it happens. A lot of people do not want to touch a public toilet handle with their hands, and I can’t say they’re wrong.

Personally, I always flush with my foot. I do this awkward little kick like a feral gymnast trying not to make skin contact with anything. But why are we pretending this is a weird workaround instead of an obvious design flaw?

If we know people avoid flushing because they don’t want to touch the handle, why not just redesign the system? A foot-activated flusher. A pedal. A sensor near the floor. Anything that acknowledges how humans actually behave instead of how we wish they did.

We already have motion sensors for sinks, soap, and hand dryers. The technology is not the issue. The issue is pretending hygiene magically overrides instinct.

I genuinely think foot-flush toilets would solve a huge percentage of the unflushed toilet problem overnight. Cleaner bathrooms. Fewer people avoiding flushing out of fear. Less resentment all around.

We don’t need to shame people. We need better design.

And yes, until then, I’ll keep kicking the handle like I’m training for the Olympics.
