It's a puffball mushroom, they're perfectly edible and the spores aren't harmful. They turn a really pretty dark purple when they're super old Edit: To everyone who has replied to my comment- I know that giant puffballs in that condition are not safe to eat. I know better than to go around eating dry, crusty mushrooms. Yeah, no shit they're not safe to eat at that point. All I was saying is that finding that mushroom is not the most serious thing in the world. I also understand that directly inhaling mushroom spores isn't a good idea. I've learned absolutely nothing from any reply, because all of this input is what I thought was basic common sense.

If they were in Scotland, we eat those when they're young, and all white. But that one has long gone off.

It's a Giant Puff Ball mushroom in it's end stages. When they are younge and white overall and throughout, you can eat them. They taste like mozzarella cheese when roasted in a pan.

Thats a puffball and it helps with coagulation. In fact Native American tribes, like the Lakota, used them to pack wounds, stemming bleeding and promoting clotting
