In one of the most unbelievable cave diving stories, 3 divers set out to complete a simple 20-minute dive. Pieter Verhulsel goes missing, resulting in a stunning conclusion after weeks of searching. https://www.buymeacoffee.com/fatalbreakc I just created this option if you want to support the page. Knowing there is a 0% chance I will die this way is so comforting
His choices forced his friend to put his own life in danger by leaving the guide rope multiple times to go grab him. This guy was a liability.
Pieter is why teachers do headcount during field trips
Peter, wtf.
- Guy goes missing Police: "Alright we'll take it from here boys. Shut down the cave, shut down the dry caves that connect to it, stop his expert friends from diving anymore, stop anyone from looking for him at all except us. - Couple days pass Police: "Alright boys, he's defiantly dead, we are now looking for a body. So don't worry about it anymore, go home, we'll look again in 6-7 days. But keep everything shut down and don't let anyone look for anything. - Weeks pass Police: "Alright boys, we can't find him. In fact, I'm starting to doubt he even exists at this point. So just open everything back up and we'll scratch this one off as a mystery. - 24 hours later Volunteers: "Hey we found him"
This channel is the best at convincing people to not go caving or diving
Peter leaving the guideline to an UNEXPLORED cave WITHOUT informing his fellow divers was an act of complete idiocy
This 3D background helps to understand how complicated caves are. Great job!
They waited weeks assuming it was just a dead body recovery. The first weeks should be spent on search for life. He lived almost a month. It shows how bad just assuming can be when it comes to life and death.
Ugh...despite the fact this guy's idiocy got him into his predicament, I still feel incredibly sorry for him. No one deserves such a horrific fate. Starvation is incredibly painful, let alone starving in complete darkness. I can't imagine the guilt and self loathing he must've felt for making such a dumb decision to leave the rope. And once his light went out and he was plunged into complete and utter darkness...I am sure he had all sorts of nightmarish visions...along with visions of hope. I can imagine he hallucinated lights in the water and the shouts of rescuers only to realize they were merely hallucinations. Memories of childhood and his life up to that point likely flashed through his mind constantly. He probably had amazing dreams where he was at home again with his loved ones, or rescued, only to awake to the void and realize that he was still trapped. I'm sure those 20 something days felt more like 20 something years.
Thanks to FatalBreakdown, I will never be a cave diver. Saved my life
At 8:05 point, Peter had to choose between drowning trying to find freedom or starving hoping for rescue… that’s a paralyzing situation. Bro definitely had the worst death, he died full of regret.
He left the guide rope. HE LEFT THE GUIDE ROPE!!
Nah, Peter worked for that ending. TBH, after the first time of getting pulled back…you do it again? What happens next is on you.
Peter got me pissed off 😡
Never change this channel! Not the narrator, the music, the layout, nothing. Love this channel so much
Divers: we lost our friend Police: ok, shut down all the dry caves because that'll be really helpful
The cops waited a week before they searched again? That is so unreasonable!
So if they had just searched the dry caves they would have found him in one day.
I mean knowing there were air pockets all over this relatively small cave, that search effort was pathetic.
