In Secrets Beneath the Maya, expert cave surveyors and archaeologists journey into the rainforests of Central America to explore vast underground cave systems once used by the ancient Maya. Deep beneath the jungle, they uncover sacred cenotes, mysterious stone constructions, and chilling evidence of human sacrifice—rituals born from a civilization in crisis. Using cutting-edge 3D scanning technology, the team maps hidden chambers and ceremonial structures that may have hosted thousands of pilgrims. With each discovery, they piece together the story of how the Maya turned to the underworld in their final desperate attempt to survive one of the worst droughts in history. From mythical underworlds and jaguar gods to deadly “bad air” and modern Maya traditions, this film reveals an ancient society’s spiritual struggle against environmental collapse—and what it can teach us today. Thanks for sharing 😊 Love watching y'all explore under ground. It's interesting and exciting. God bless y'all and your families.
Water levels may have been lower in the times of the Maya.
13:00 isn't that just a cave lake?
omg what was that scan and lost worlds that were believed to be buried like the one in turkey, those things are serious mysteries
It's cool like 15 years ago I went to Belize and went up into a little cave that had a room full of all types of limestone formations in a big open ceremonial room, and if you climbed up another area there was a giant labia looking crystal wall and there was multiple skeletons in this cave. I was quite lucky to be able to see it.
LADAR & the like has been an incredible tool in these over grown jungles! The Yucatan & near by areas, has no rivers. ⛈ It is all ancient reefs with cenotes for water access.
Having your remains calcited in place for hundreds or thousands of years in an incredible place........sounds better than going up the local crematorium chimney , stored on memory.
Yeah, I also feel a closeness to 2000 year old bones of homo sapiens found in Europe.
Amazing!!! wow
Water is life!
It name is jaguar cave
¿Tienen éste documental en español? 🥲
So similar to the Christians "Way to the cross. To perform the stations to the cross. But for them it was going through one's own way to face one 's own trial or giving his life and others to god for rain or other wishes . Quite surreal . So interesting . Thank you so much for this journey.
마야는 천상 천신들의 문명이고 마야인들이 아니라 고려조선 고려인들이다
So fascinating! The idea of hidden tunnels and lost worlds beneath the Maya cities makes their civilization even more mysterious and advanced than we imagined. 🏛🌎✨
Guate-Maya 💙
I guarantee there is a lot more out there
Was in a Mayan cave in the Yucatan in 2020. The Center and end of the cave had many pottery type offerings. But the faces on the “pots” looked more Asian than Mayan ? I have photos - wish I could share.
The depiction of the jaguar alongside the entrance of the ominous cave suggests that the inhabitants once resided within this cavern. Archaeological and symbolic interpretations indicate that many may have fallen victim to jaguar attacks, an event that likely instilled profound fear and shaped their collective experience of terror
The Maya didn't just 'believe' in Xibalba; they physically recreated it. The underworld wasn't a metaphor; it was a physical place they entered to negotiate with the gods. The discovery of the jaguar paintings and the real jaguars in the caves is the smoking gun—it proves their 'myths' were just field reports of what they actually witnessed.
