Not just a danger to themselves but a danger to the rescuers.

Those kids are SO LUCKY that rescuers were able to dig them out of that unstable hole they so stupidly decided to crawl into.

When you have to suck in breath in order to keep moving; that is the cave telling you to stop and go back the way you came! Listen to the cave and not your ego.
