I'm from Trinidad where the Paria tragedy happened. The divers never got justice and till this day, the country is still fighting for justice for these guys. There were some coverups involved and we still can't get clarity on how the situation went down and why they weren't able to be saved. R.I.P the Paria divers </3
The detail about Shaw getting out his scissors and then not even knowing what to do with them anymore is so viscerally awful. RIP to both of those men.
Immediate tears when realizing Dave freed Deon before he died and risked his own life to retrieve his body. Wow. May they be resting in peace.

The second story with the working divers was just horrific, and utterly heart wrenching to learn that the other 4 guy’s were left behind to die, with not even an “ attempt “ to rescue them. 😕😢
Diving stories really freak me out idk how anyone does these dives
If Deon had been my son, I'd have told everyone to let him stay there. I wouldn't want anyone to risk their life for a corpse. In my mind, my son wouldn't be there anymore, just the shell he inhabited while he was alive. I might have come to the cave opening to mourn, but I'd have fought against anyone going in after his body
Those final shouts from the men trapped in the pipe are horrendous. May they be resting in peace now

Dave said he had felt that deep connection with Dion, then proceeds to lose his life trying to retrieve the body of the young diver. This right here twisted my stomach and heart into a twister of emotions that I've never felt before 😢 Absolutely heart breaking!
Story #2's video is INSANE. The story with the deep sea pipe is one of the craziest stories ive ever heard. Everytime I hear it my heart aches for all those guys and their families. We can try to conceptualize or imagine them getting pulled in a 'split second', but the video shows how fast it really was. My brain couldn't keep up, so i dont know how those men were able to hold their breath that quickly. I'm amazed at their fortitude, and saddened by their loss.
That last one got me. I have 3 sisters and I think anyone here with siblings knows that we would jump straight into the fray to save them. And his friend who risked his own life on low air to save them but unfortunately couldn't is a hero.
34:49 It was so instantaneous, it’s literally within a single frame of the video that everything goes from everyday mundane activity to sucked into a pipe! Drowning hurts at first, but it’s faster than running out of oxygen in an enclosed space. Not sure which is better, but what I do know is that people who could have saved them, didn’t, & I hope they never get any good sleep as a result. Karma would be if they too found themselves in that situation as those poor guys, but unfortunately it won’t happen in this particular timeline.
It’s called “rapture of the deep”. I suffered from it once and if not for my two dive buddies I’d be dead. Of course you know the common name I used, but I also got into a tight spot and got stuck and on a 600 foot dive I stirred up a lot of silt and lost my orientation not realizing I was going into narcosis and started diving down instead of up. I owe my life to the quick thinking of my friends who quickly realized what was happening and got to me before I passed out and drowned. I could never do a dark dive again no matter how I tried I’d start to panic as I got closer and closer to pure black.
I will never understand how people can put themselves in a situation in which one minor mistake equals death.
