Romeo Lavia complicated things for Liverpool. Pressing him isn't easy. One turn, he has transitioned from defence to attack.

It's actually pretty damning that Chelsea started the game with their 5th and 6th choice CBS and ended it with 4 full backs across the back like and Liverpool still couldn't get the win.

Chelsea building from back was great to watch. They have mastered stretching the Pitch. Great Job.

Basically, Salah is a liability if he can't score goals.

Chelsea did what Liverpool does to other teams 1. Hungry pressing 2. Late winner + Enzo Maresca made defenders the best attackers

thats why in high press you need to defend with 3 defenders otherwise you will always be outnumbered because of the goalkeeper.

Liverpool tried defending in a 4-2-4 or 4-2-3-1 with Szobozlai pressing the cb with his cover shadow on Caciedo or Salah pressing the cb with Cucurella in his cover shadow respectively Both never achieved their goal as when Szobozlai press,Caicedo was very mobile and drifts around a lot which creates the angle for the cb to find him or with third man combinations, the press is easily broken. Also, when Salah press,Cucurella was found directly from the gk or when he gets his angle right and Gravenberch was the man responsible for covering the wings rather than the fullbacks. After 20 minutes, the cbs and defenders starting breaking their lines which made pool press better and they a lot of possession from their pressing by forcing Chelsea long. Chelsea tried defending with a fluid defensive system. They were man to man in every part of the pitch and this did leave a lot if whole in between them so if one man is beaten, danger is coming. For attacking,Chelsea tried attacking through the wings by sending in a lot of crosses and overloading the box.Good but wasn't so much successful as Liverpool had more physical defenders. Liverpool tried the drop their central attacker deep and isolate wingers in 1v1 because of chelsea agreesive defending. What they would look to do is go long to the wingers from the gk who would be in a 1v1 with the fullback. This was good but wasn't successful because the gk wasn't good in finding the wingers, also there were times they could've used the free man they have in midfield but didn't After 20 minutes,Liverpool just didn't change their defense but also attacking.I said they didn't use their free man in midfield well, well they started taking advantage of it and was building up though third man combinations and quick ball movements which brought them a lot of success The rest defense is a key component I am not going to forget. Liverpool had a rest defense of 2-2 by inverting both fullbacks or one staying wide and the other inverting or both staying wide. What this present itself is leaving yourself expose to counters but also you will have a lot of men central for quick combinations and good counter pressing. Liverpool rushed in possession a lot which affected their rest defense because they weren't well settled to limit counters.Another positive from Chelsea agreesive defending which forced Liverpool to rush Chelsea had a rest defense of 2-3 which is more secure than a 2-2. Chelsea were much more controlled in possession which gave their rest defense time to to settle and limit counters

One thing is also the fact that Enzo drops deep, letting Gravenberg have to man-mark him, leaving that space open, allowing Cucu to attack the space. The first goal Chelsea scored besides the stunning Frank Lampard style finish, as it result of the left side being completely empty. The question is, although most big teams play like this, despite having a very good rest defense, is man-marking during the opponent's build-up phase still a good trend these days? Too many teams had been got caught on doing man mark or high line while the opponent's building up

Liverpool look so weak. Almost all of their wins were late or last minute and now 3 losses in a row. Slot needs to sort his team out

Full strength chelsea or even with just cole palmer would have won 3-0. We lacked the quality to finish after going up 1-0. Nothing wrong with the players playing they are just tired.
