If they reject my PR, I’m going to fork it myself.

I opened a PR once. I ended up being a maintainer of my own fork because the original maintainer stepped down 😭

I agree with you that being expected to contribute open source is not OK. However, the motivation to do so just to contribute to a common goal is something I appreciate.

Funny thing, I’ve interviewed for companies who said to me I don’t have enough open source contributions and then turned around and said that they have a policy that all code you write while working for them even outside your normal working hours and responsibilities is their IP and open source contributions are not allowed.

I love the story about the guy who got a job at a company that ran something he liked, fixed a bug that had been pissing him off for years, then immediately put in his notice

Every day I witness your videos the more mouth is agape in gratitude. Thank God someone can make humor that sometimes helps me treat this as absurd as it is. God... I miss SF before the tech boom.

It is rather annoying that so many people contribute to open source and then companies come along and license their own forks built on the backs of people working for free.

Every time i've opened a PR on any open source repo, it was to fix an issue i was having with the software

Yeah because non open source programmers aren't frustrated people. You can pour yourself as many cups of tea to try to hide it. 😅

The polio vaccine inventors were Dr. Jonas Salk, who created the first successful inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) in the mid-1950s, and Dr. Albert Sabin, who later developed the oral, live-attenuated polio vaccine (OPV). Salk famously refused to patent his vaccine, ensuring it remained free and accessible to the public, a decision that saved millions, while Sabin's oral vaccine also became globally widespread. This is what "open source" means, instead of greedy capitalism.
