This is not a sponsored video. Crysound offered to send me a unit to play with, and didn't even require me to make a video about it. But how could I not make a video about this intriguing device. This unit is a demonstrator unit. The final units may have different software and there is the ability to download firmware updates over WiFi. Mike of Mikeselectricstuff has sacrificed his unit for our betterment. You can see inside (including the microphone array) and his commentary on the circuitry at this link:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uq6OonayCUk Here's the Kickstarter:- https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pocket-acoustic-cam/crysound-pocket-acoustic-imaging-camera A link to the official product page with full tech spec:- https://www.crysound.com/product/crysound-pocket-acoustic-imaging-camera/ Just like thermal imaging cameras, niche test equipment like this tends to be aimed at professional use like factory maintenance, HVAC and power distribution. But at less than 10% of the cost of the Fluke version, this is actually viable for those who have specialist hobby uses. For me the most exciting discovery was how it locked onto the corona discharge of the air invigorator from 10m away! It's extremely quiet to the human ear and yet the camera could detect it from a significant distance. The on-screen frequency display indicated a high ultrasonic content from the tiny corona discharge at the tips of the needles. As with other test equipment like thermal cameras, it's useful to understand the nature of what you're looking at. Low frequency sound waves tend to modulate the air in a room, while higher frequency sounds become progressively more directional. My wife's a birder, this device looks excellent for pinpointing exactly which tree or bush the bird is actually hiding in
Amaze amaze amaze
Wow, I’ve seen this on a larger scale with some very expensive test equipment that I always wanted to get at my previous job, but pretty cool to see it miniaturized and closer to a consumer level device.
This might just be the COOLEST video I have seen on your channel yet! 😁👍👍🍻
i once took something in the 90s that let me let me see sounds ;) kinda neat.
that’s super neat I didn’t know there was such a thing
You always suprise me Clive❤
Very cool device.
Heck yea this is sick
this is really cool.. i would have a fun time with one of those.
Cool. Thank you, good luck and keep working.
I was surprised you didn't pull it to bits Big Clive! It is a nice bit of kit. For diagnostic work, it would be very useful. Like for detecting corona or loose core laminations in a transformer for electrical stuff. Or bearing noise in machines.
These types of cameras are also sometimes used in industrial machines to isolate vibration sources and prevent wear.
Be careful Clive-hands. The lockpicking lawyers hands might want that camera and move in to pick your door to steal them!
Finding radio noise from arcing on that power pole! I want one now!
Now I can see what you said 🤗 A night vision version would be Sweet. You could even see what the dog and cat see, And Hear 👍
Very interesting and cool 😮
not a sonic screwdriver but a sonic camcorder
This is a perfect gift for my dentist.
Yes. This would be awesome for finding pin hole leaks in refrigeration evap and condenser coils. Those tiny freaking leaks that take a year for the charge to bleed off and nothing else works to find. We've actually looked at the Fluke one and considered it, bringing the Crysound one up in tomorrows meeting!
