Just commenting here because I want to make sure you get youtube points. Thanks for always reporting on stuff, and here's hoping we're all here in a couple years looking back in disgust at how nuts things were (while hopefully running new hardware)

Love your videos, always great and entertaining info. Do you think you'd ever do a video looking back on the best times to have purchased parts? Like, when was the best time to get a surprisingly powerful CPU or GPU for a crazy good deal in the history of the channel.

I'm so glad I built what I built when I built it, because less than 2 years later this pricing mess happened 😬. I built with future proofing in mind, this machine has to go long. I'm a tech nerd and home brewer, and I enjoy your vibe. Keep up the good work.

I have a 3080 10gb and a 12600k on ddr4. I have no reason to upgrade for 1440p. My sons have 3060 12gb and 9700k, there’s no reason to upgrade theirs for 1080p. The performance is still great and upgrading is just not worth it, there is so little benefit just to change settings from high to ultra on a slop triple AAA game.

I drink as often as you and tend to have one as a reward for finishing a difficult task. Thanks for your videos in this difficult time.

I built my PC back in April 2024. I have 14900K and 4080 Super. The last upgrade I made was in October 2024, when I upgraded my RAM. Given the situation I'll be holding on to my rig for a long time. I hope my components survive. Overclocking is out of the question because I don't want to overstress my system. The more I "baby" it, the longer it'll go.

I followed high-end builds and set my goals toward that. In 2024, I managed to put something together that I am still running. I totally understand people feeling disappointed, as even the parts I used are still very expensive. What to do? If you are deadset on creating your computer with the best parts, you need to be realistic and take time to gather the parts, maybe from the used market or from computer resellers as open box (make sure you understand return policies). For now, and the next few years the AM4 and Intel Z790 platforms give you plenty of options to be cost-effective.

Since PC building is basically a no-go right now, I'm getting around it by doing some PC modding. I have a Phanteks Enthoo Pro M, which has 2x 140mm fans in the front. I always thought this case was quite close to allowing 3x 140 mm fans if the DVD drive was removed from the top front area. But even when DVD removed, nope. So what I am doing is an entire DIY operation to build a front panel for this case that supports 3x 140mm fans. My design involves using thick hardfoam boards, multiplex wooden panels, and likely some metal cutting, even if I'm avoiding it as much as possible. For anyone DIY-oriented, I strongly suggest consider some modding on your PC case. It brings a relentless stream of little challenges. Just because of this I upgrade my DIY set of tools with a clamping table, Dremel vertical drilling workstation, and japanese Suizan saw plus Shinto sawrasp. Hours and hours of pure joy, highly recommended!

Paul thanks for asking the TOUGH questions and providing your witty insight and guidance! Try the Shiner Strawberry Blonde! It is a seasonal, fruit-infused blonde ale brewed by the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas. Hope you can find some in the LA area. Enjoy!
