When you get these types of phones, try to just restore when possible. If the iPhone is on a version of iOS that's jailbreakable, the value goes up quite a bit. I used to do this at the shop I managed, but I wasn't allowed to do actual jailbreaks. They sell faster online than in person, or at least in my neck of the woods that was true.
