They covers all air holes for th engines for more aero dynamics. But its caused them to be harder to drive and the air underneath is pushing the sidecar up.
With how windy it was, they should have cancelled all sidecars. Shows the amateurish event that this is.

They were lucky to survive that crash. They had to cancel for this year, can't risk more of those takeoffs. Ground effect cars have the same issue. Cars have implemented some mitigations such as the roof flaps in NASCAR, and wheel arch bodywork slits. The simple solution for sidecars is to take the technology back to the prior art and new rules to stop the flat bottom wing aero.
The design of the latest outfits is, like other motor sports, finding the problem of air getting under the units and lifting. nascar has flaps on roof, and other forms of racing machinery uses aero to kill the lift above limits but sidecars are just finding the problems at ever increasing speeds. The authorities have limited power, but it’s not enough on the faster bumps.
