I think one of the best parts of Faust new design is that the only reason why he looks like this is because he almost worked himself to death to save the life of a little girl. He may be scary but its all to protect and care for people.

25:27 the current running theory is that faust is actually dead. His soul ascended to heaven as he gave his life to save Delilah in the dlc story and his body just wanders the world now because his desire to save lives was so intense it became it's own haunted entity that possesses his corpse

The reason for Ky's redesign is to reflect how when he was a knight, he was very detached from the people he swore to protect. Now, as king, he has begun to understand the people, and to hold less tightly to his original beliefs, so the design reflects his more "every man" views!
The funny thing about the "hear me out" for Faust and you saying whoever said that has no survival? Faust is actually a HUGE sweetheart. Sure he USED to be crazy and a serial killer, now he's just crazy, but he also is back to being a healer and trying to make up for his wrong doing, assuming responsibilities for them even though he was mentally sick and manipulated by the illuminatis. He absolutely is husband material. I wouldnt but I'm a lesbian so he just looses by default.
One thing about the changes to Faust's design on him becoming more of a horror creature is we see it happen in the Another Story dlc. It was awe-inspiring and heartbreaking seeing the reason he went from whimsical goof to eldritch goof. It was a perfect addition to his story.
So according to the story of most of the characters have reached the end of their arcs, so their designs look more laid-back. They've found home.
Fun detail about gio's design that you can't see most of the time. The soles of her shoes have a dog paw patern on them.
I'd like to point out something about the logo design: the word "strive" has splashes in all the letters except for the i and the v which are totally clean, because this is the IV (4th) game in the saga
