Making Rounds: Medical Education Documentary Film

Leading cardiologists Valentin Fuster, MD, PhD, Director of Mount Sinai Heart and Herschel Sklaroff, MD, Clinical Professor of Medicine, Cardiology at Mount Sinai Heart were filmed for one-month for the “Making Rounds” documentary film as they cared for critically-ill heart patients in the Cardiac Care Unit at The Mount Sinai Hospital. Watch Mount Sinai Heart doctors, fellows, residents, and nurses in action and saving lives demonstrating how simply listening to patients at the bedside remains medicine’s most indispensable tool over any technology. In this film Mount Sinai Heart helps preserve the disappearing art and science of how to examine and diagnose patients at the bedside for future generations of physicians. **This film was made possible by the generous support of the McInerney Family.** Copyright 2015 Middlemarch Films, Inc

I want to shout out, and I cry. The knowledge and art of medicine is almost lost. I beg, please humanity see that knowledge runs so much deeper than algorithms. Our elders can share an abundance of unwritten wisdom wisdom wisdom.

I’m a bit old-fashioned doc too and like to focus on the physical exam. It really boosts your confidence when your findings are later confirmed with imaging.

I am an process engineer. I have mixed connective tissue disease. And I can't help myself finding similarities in both career paths. All about systems an systematic thinking to find the right problems doing the right questions and trying suitable solutions. I sincerely admire Doctors work specifically those from Venezuela. I'm so grateful. I'm alive and better because of this kind of approach on diagnosis

These doctors are geniuses. If all med students and residents had doctors like that as mentors, the whole medical profession would be transformed.

15:45 A jaw dropping moment for me and everyone watching this. He simply picked up the medicine (Sprinolactone) simply by physical exam. Analysis of Venous Pressure. Only a well informed physician can do such a miracle.

I'm a retired family doc. Back in med school, one of the most important texts I used was, "Bedside Diagnostic Examination", by DeGowin. A careful exam by an observant doc is worth all the lab tests available. We were also taught that 80% of your diagnoses should be made simply by talking to the patient (taking a proper history). If you're relying on the lab and medical imaging, you're not doing your job properly.
