I’ve recently moved abroad and though I make less than I made in the United States, I live better than I did and I have more money left over after my expenses are paid. I still struggle with accepting the payment amount considering how much I made before but I always remind myself every month. How much better I’m living. I paid $20 yesterday for medicine and the hospital after I burned myself.

why earn more if you don't have time to spend it?

Employees who didn't take 30 paid vacation days kept killing themselves and we can't afford finding replacements

My aunt lives in the US and last year she could "afford" 10 days of unpaid vacation during summer. Why live like that? Ok you ll earn more money than in Europe, but can't afford even 3 weeks of unpaid vacation. What's the point then?

Meanwhile a friend of mine is negotiating more vacation days for less salary as 5 weeks are really not that much 😂

An employer has to grant an employee at least 24 paid days off annually. That's the law in Germany.

Also consider the cost of living in Germany.

Type Ashton has several detailed videos doing the math for an average double wage double child family in USA and Germany. Though initially earning a few 10.000 $ more they have a few less after factoring in taxes. mandatory contributions and government handouts to families as well as expenses. If she would have factored in cashing out through overtime and reducing vacation and sick days etc. as in the USA the couple would have even more left in Germany.

Lol. In the US retirement, paid vacation, health care is on top of the 50% higher salary. I mean Germany you probably get two more weeks of vacation, but otherwise we get most of the same bennies.

Cost of living is also a thing.😊 If your groceries cost the equivalent of 350$ per month for organic whole foods instead of 900$ and the same applies to just about anything else (except for gas tbh) you have more purchasing power with less income. Not to mention social security and retirement savings are already included.😊
