Original Video Credit: @LynolsOffice One twist of the key lowers the rear glass into the tailgate, unlocking the next step of the mechanism. Instead of swinging outward like a normal wagon, the entire gate slides smoothly down beneath the cargo floor. General Motors called it the βGlide Awayβ or βClamshellβ tailgate system, used on large 1970s station wagons like the Pontiac Grand Safari. The design gave families a massive unobstructed cargo opening for loading furniture, camping gear, or groceries. To close it, the tailgate is pulled back upward into position and the rear window is raised back into place. Even decades later, it still feels like something designed far ahead of its time. Big olβ GM B wagon from the 1970βs, 2 tons of her. You could almost put a snow plow on them and plow your driveway.
Cool idea for a demo. But practical wise its meh. Love the door slamming much better.
Horrible camerawork.
How is this better?
Station wagons were pretry great imo, just wished it wasnt associated too much with funerals. And wished it had a higher ground clearance
Bad idea
