I used to clean for an American couple here in Norfolk. During the summer, they cancelled my service, packed up their stuff and moved into a hotel with aircon for a few weeks.

Yep, when we have 8 months of cold , wet ,windy, snowy weather, you bet we're gonna make the most of the sun, and grumble about it at the same time!

I had the privilege to work at South Crofty tin mine in a couple of areas I worked it was well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and 100%humidity and I was breaking rocks on a grizzly with a sledgehammer. The sweat would pour off and fill your boots. Thank you to all the guys who worked underground and helped me learn. God bless you all

Speed walked to work today in melty heat. Our office actually has air con but tbh, a meeting in a freezing cold room this morning was the worst bit of the day. It's not supposed to be 'cold' anywhere when the outdoor temps are this high. Air con just sets you up to fail when you walk out the door. Make the most of it while it's here. We'll be back to our regular, scheduled programme soon.

British summers are awesome when they hit hard. Long nights at the pub beer garden, drinking cider, back in garden listening to tunes and it’s still not dark till 11pm, still warm all night. We need it when you’ve experienced to other 9 months of cold, dark, rainy winter.

Its 11pm and even with all the windows open and multiple fans on, my house is 27 degrees ☹️ Our houses are so efficient at keeping the heat in that by the time they have cooled down, the sun is coming up again 🥵

We don't only 'go out to play' we have to go out to work too. I'm in a small room with some other people and only one little window opens as the other one has been stuck for years. It gets hot! We have a big fan but last year the machines in the factory started to overheat so our fan got stolen to rescue them. We wear our shorts, take towels to sit on so we don't stick to the furniture and drink a lot of water and tea! One thing I will really recommend is a neck fan. It does a surprisingly great job of keeping you cool and you don't have to worry about it blowing your paperwork around or annoying other people.

Humidity and infrastructure makes such a huge difference. I have chronic issues and while i usually suffer less joint pain in the summer, my other issues get worse because the heat makes me ill. Then i compare it to a week in Fuertaventura, much closer to the equator, its off the African coast...and the heat there is dry and the infrastructure is built for heat. Absolutely lovely. Healthiest i felt in years 😅

The insulation can work both ways if applied correctly. During warm weather keep all windows open at night to cool down the house or flat. In the morning you close the windows and the shutters while it's still cool. And you everything closed until the evening. The insulation then helps keeping the heat outside. It's not as strong as an AC but it helps. Get up earlier in the morning. If possible keep siesta eg. between 2 and 4 pm.

My first summer here, I hung out in the frozen foods aisles at the various supermarkets, just basking in the coolness. There’s very little I miss from the US, but AC is one thing I occasionally pine for.
