I have a 2009 Forester. Car still runs great with over 200,000 miles. Including a 6MT swap cause the 5MT was failing, I’ve put maybe $5k of maintenance into it in the 50k I’ve had it for. Aside from the crap composite head gaskets, those old Subarus are solid. In my area you see gen 2 and gen 3 Foresters all over the place, even some first gen ones.

I once had a mechanic tell me I had a transmission issue when it was a wheel bearing. I’m glad I took it to a good mechanic instead of dumping it.
