“ the best horror movie ending ever “ you cannot be serious
Its literally how the earlier seasons of Black Mirror was like
Her having semblances of consciousness was so terrifying. Especially at Ian’s party as she shouted, “ it’s not me it’s not me!”
Thank you so much for breaking this movie down omg. I wouldn’t have gotten through that SA scene omg. I was anticipating this movie so much but that would’ve just gotten me mad.
Maybe I need to rewatch, but it seemed to me that Bear’s ultimate takeaway from the restaurant scene was that there was no way out and after the sex scene he’s got a thousand yard stare on his face. Nikki was in a worse hell, but Bear was also in hell and knew he was fucked
He Should've just Told her that he liked her 😂
This movie needed for sex scenes to show Nikki was not able to consent.
I think it makes perfect sense and makes it all the more dark and scary that Nikki had some feelings for Bear. She wanted him to say he liked her but after being put into that state (whatever the nature of it was) she was traumatized and so it would make sense still that she freaks out whenever she was in control. If you like someone, it doesn't mean you're cool being in a trance or controlled or whatever
I had some dork literally tell me “you missed the point” because I said that the ‘Is it really so bad being with me?’ scene solidifies Bear’s position as the bad guy. I think there are just some people that are unwilling to recognize the flaws in their thinking they see reflected in Bear.
The genie was tryna warn us about why he doesn’t let love wishes happen
This movie had my jaw on the floor during the scene where she is talking to him and whole her body is asleep. You could sense the whole theater realized Bear was the villain. I also felt awful for Sarah. She was such a well designed character
i think it’s possible that, before Bear made the wish, Nikki could’ve had a small/ slowly developing crush on him. i remember in the car she said that when she likes a guy, nobody knows, which i think a lot of women (including myself) can relate to. her describing him “as a little brother” to Sarah could’ve been a way for her to mask her perhaps undecided feelings for him, especially considering Sarah had feelings for Bear. Bear is still 100% the villain however, because if he simply confessed his feelings and gave her time/ space to understand her own, she would’ve eventually given him a decisive yes or no. i think the movie could speak to a common experience for women: when you show some affection or care for a guy but aren’t sure if it’s a romantic connection, and he starts violating your boundaries, attempting to possess you, and ends up completely wrecking your life. that being said, it’s also entirely possible that Nikki never liked Bear, and i can see why people interpret the movie in that way. i think that’s the great thing about it, we all have our own perspectives which shows how good and thought provoking it is!!
as soon as you said "no AI used in this video" I subscribed
21:00-23:00 not trying to shut down your argument but to be fair in the movie when they're in the car before Baron's wish gets made, Nikki does say that if she has a crush on a guy that they will never ever find out thus we have to rely on the writer or director to confirm
So many teenage guys just laughing about how weird nikki was instead of how horrible Bears actions are when I left the theatre.
This movie was definitely one of those where you just had to watch the explanation straight after that ending. Bear's obsession is not talked about enough, as the movie seems to focus purely on Nikki's erratic behaviour as a result of the wish, etc. The way the writer had portrayed him as a "nice guy", then turning him into the "victim", was so convincing that I almost believed for a second Nikki was the issue. After watching this explanation, I've realised that not only did Bear force Nikki to be with him against her will, but even after she had begged him to stop, he flipped the narrative onto himself just to make himself feel better about his actions and the consequences. One thing that freaks me out is how he had seen her act like this just to sit and do nothing about it, seemingly freaked out when talking to his best friend Ian and then playing dumb like Nikki hadn't just scared the living crap out of him. The ending was ultimately the best and the worst part of this movie, as you realise the entire time Nikki had been forced to live a life that wasn't hers, leaving her in Bear's house, covered in blood, with both her friends dead. She obviously had no choice but to conform to this life that was built for her, and that's why Bear is the villain and not the victim, as it's perceived. Solid 9/10, gripping and very disturbing if you're into that.
Curry Barker’s idea that “maybe Nikki would have gotten with Bear if he had just built the courage to express his feelings to her at the beginning” does not show a misunderstanding of his own film like you say it does. I think he’s trying to say that it could have worked out if Bear was the type of person to communicate how he felt and allow Nikki the agency to make her own choice.
You’ve missed the point with “freakynicky.” His friend tried to sabotage Bear’s advances toward Nicky because they had been sleeping together on and off. He knew it would piss Nicky off if bear said it, and she was angry. I guess their affair was a somewhat a secret and he’d knew it would trigger her. I am writing this in reference to your statement at 4:40 that the nickname 'Freakynicky' was created by school bullies. This is false and the movie is trying to convey this.
I totally disagree that the director missed the point of his own movie. Just because Nikki may have liked him doesn’t change it. You can like someone and still not wanna be stuck in a purgatory while some witch takes control of your body XD. Just put yourself in her shoes lmao
One thing I don't see people pointing out is how Bear reacts upon seeing Sarah's letter, he's genuinely, sincerely screaming. He doesn't react like that with Nikki at all despite "loving her". It really drives home the point that he only likes the idea of Nikki, not her real self, he doesn't care about her wellbeing.
