OBSESSION Ending Explained - Is it the best horror movie ever?

I find it really interesting that they choose to have the male villain named "Bear " given the belief that women would choose to be alone in the woods with a bear rather than a man.

Guy here. Bear was basically a nice guy rapist. He used a wish to remove her autonomy to force her to like him. The sex scene after the dinner out where is she is blankly staring at the ceiling while he's jackhammering away, that was basically rape. Much of her going completely crazy happens right after this rape scene. I think Nikki's body and original persona felt violated by Bear, yet the Willow tree magic is FORCING her to love him. So she knows he does not really love her, he loves having sex with her, or having her as a gf like a trophy. But that's it. Much of this becomes more apparent when real Nikki begs him to kill her, and he coldy replies in typical nice guy fashion, making it all about him.... "What's so bad about being with me". There's also the scene where he calls the customer service line, but he doesnt initially ask to cancel the wish, just to modify it.

Bear is the kind of guy who believes he deserves the girl just because he wants her so bad

I’m glad I’m not the only one who was disturbed about how he just put his dead pet cat in a garbage bin

The fact that Bear asked to alter the wish when he called, not straight out cancel it immediately, is further proof that he's a POS. He was willing to keep her against her will as long as she didn't act too crazy.

Not only does Nikki have three bodies on her hands... but she also has multiple witnesses from that party who will testify to her extreme jealousy and erratic behavior. Moreover, and if they find her at Bear's home... there's a shrine, she's wearing Sarah's dress, has matching fake tattoos on her body, and sarah's naked corpse is only a few feet away (immediately identified by said tattoos). She's also got her fingerprints on that pistol. There's absolutely no way she comes out of this clean... And what's worse? Her three friends, including Sarah who was really nice to Nikki... are dead. What's even worse than that? Curry Barker letting us know that "Real Nikki" is conscious and awake during the actions of "Freaky Nikki." So yeah, that's trauma, multiplied by a thousand, and with three life sentences.

Bear is your typical nice guy. I’ll cut him some slack because how was he supposed to know the wish was real? But it got to a point where he knew the real Nikki was suffering and he chose to pretend. He’s a coward too he told the guy on the phone to alter the wish. So now you’re still willing to take away her autonomy after you know the wish is real. Then he still had sex with her body after the dinner when he realised the wish was real?? Then he helped get rid of Sarah’s body??? Then he couldn’t even commit to the suicide TWICE

I think Nikki having a crush or not is ultimately immaterial. The movie is definitely more about how Bear is a coward. He had the opportunity to confess to Nikki and whether she accepted or not doesn't matter, the fact that he chickened out and then chose guaranteed "yes" instead of risking the unknown and potential no. Life is about risks and not everything works out how you want but you should accept that and move on. One could say that in today's landscape, everything is an instant gratification, things are more guaranteed, and so people don't have this resilience to failure, which only makes it harder to take risks.

This movie genuinely scared the fuck out of me. Inde Navarrette is a star. The way she moved her body is going to give me nightmares, it was so uncanny and bizarre and uncomfortable. Sound design was perfection as well. Overall, incredible film.

Sarah being the only who asked him about his cat, and got the worst possible outcome.

Remember women: just because he’s a NICE guy, doesn’t mean he’s a GOOD guy. There is a big difference, and I LOVE how this movie shows this. Again, beware.

To all the lads out there. Just confess your feelings bro, if she rejects you, move on and find someone who loves you for you and don't force it 😅

There was no love in this movie from anybody. Period.

Additionally, once the person dies, the thing or wish they had will disappear. So in this sense, the money in Ian’s house is all gone, or it magically disappears, the same way it appeared in the first place. It came out of nowhere.

Bear was the one with the obsession. Yeah? Just me? I had a couple (literally only 2 and if you think this is a brag, therapy is a good thing) guys that fell in love with the "idea of me". They couldn't have told you what types of books I liked, or my favorite color, my comfort food, or my favorite type of weather. But they sure knew I liked one thing they liked and built an entire world in their head about it. If you meet someone like that, please run. They have never been a friend.

i think it's fine that the creator says Nikki DID have a crush. Having a crush is not the same as having a relationship that works out, or being actually in love. You've never had a crush/relationship go bad? It's that. She didn't know he was so obsessed and would be OK with doing things to her against her will until she was in the position to find out those things. If he stayed a nice guy and didn't make the wish, she'd either have come to love him or realised it was misplaced friend/sib vibes. It still works.

The scene where Real Nicki broke through and was talking to Barron from inside her body while fake Nicki was asleep, it reminded me of that scene in Annihilation when the crew realizes its not Cass, its the bear who ate her and is using her real voice to draw them in. Putting it all together...That actually gave chills.
