I think maybe Taylor Swift did the whole girl squad thing because she was never popular in school and she wanted the chance to feel like one of the popular girls. No matter how rich and famous she is I'm sure her past creeps up on her sometimes and it probably still affects her the way girls treated her back then. It actually blows my mind how mean and petty middle school/high school girls can be.

Honestly, Taylor's squad always reminded me of the movie Mean Girls. Why wasn't Demi invited? Why did Camila get accepted and not the other members of Fifth Harmony? Her squad was a power flex, not a sign of feminism and inclusivity. I went to a very cliquey high school and there were a group of popular girls who would dominate any space they entered, even if others were there first. I'm a grown adult and the memory of being treated like I was beneath them still lingers.

This was when I started to realize how fame, money and status obsessed Taylor was. Idk. It all felt like a capitalistic ploy (as most things she does tend to feel). I also just could not with the general immaturity of it all…as if they were in middle school. But Taylor seems to romanticize this kind of stuff. I truly believe, that in school, she wanted to be seen as “popular” or “cool” and never got it. And so she chased it in her adult life.

Taylor and her whole Swift Squad reminds me of what CM Punk said to John Cena during their feud, with Punk calling Cena out for trying to act like an underdog even though he was a multiple time champ. You're a dynasty. You are what you hate. You have become the New York Yankees!" What Punk said can completely apply to Taylor. She always tried to come across as the quiet, goody two shoes girl in school who comes from humble beginnings. The one who is always under the bleachers at the pep rallies and would rather stay at home than go out. She's from a rich family, and you see her with her group of "friends" made up of supermodels, influencers, nepo babies, etc, her "shocked" reactions to winning awards, her petty feuds, and getting engaged to a star football player. She's a 14 time grammy award winner. She's THE pop star. She's no longer the quiet and humble girl. She's not Laney Boggs. She's Regina George.
