I lost my dad when I was only 14. He had a heart-attack. It was the darkest point in my life. Suddenly he was gone. I couldn't say anything to him. It was terrible for me then. I would have needed him so much. My advice to the kids: Don't drop your Dad. I'm sure he loves you. Nobody is flawless. Your dad always wanted to have children. He often showed that. You have only a limited time with your dad. Just enjoy. Otherwise one day it will be too late.
As a teenager, I too dropped my father‘a name. It takes some maturing and sometimes even therapy to understand our parents are human, and we all have dark sides. I am now proud to use my father’s name, because I learned about his traumas and how him and my mom simply were not compatible. Her personality lit his weaknesses on fire. Maybe Shiloh will realize one day that she can still love her father while having boundaries in place.
She’s so beautiful. I wish she would be more sensitive to her father. I’m sure he loves her and always wanted six kids, was hands on helpful and loving. Why not be nice to him? I understand her independence but it would be nice to see the kids showing some respect and appreciation to their Dad?
If my children dropped me and my name from their lives, I would move on and allow them their independence. But they would inherit nothing from me. They would not hate me and benefit from me at the same time.
