Kelly, I'm a retired nurse and at the Veterans Home where I worked, all animals were welcome, but we also had the problem with the squirrels eating the bird food. One of our residents started putting grease and or oil on the poles and you wouldn't believe how entertaining it was to watch the squirrels slide down those poles!!! Never could get the bird feed after that! Like I said, all animals were welcome there, so the squirrels also got fed, just not with bird feed.

Kelly, just mix cayenne pepper in your bird seed. It doesn’t affect birds, but squirrels are sensitive to it and will leave it alone. Put back on your original pole, it works.
