A Full Day of Mulching, Planting & Then...😭

Robbie, I am devastated for you. You and Brent have worked so hard in your beautiful garden. The loss of the willow tree is tough to take on top of everything else. My condolences on the loss of your grandfather. Looking on the bright side, I can’t wait to see what you and Brent do to replace the willow. Had 75 bags of mulch delivered 3 weeks ago. 25 to go. We are 77 and 75, but getting it done. Neighbor "lady" said as they were heading to Ireland. "Will it be gone when we get back" REALLY!!! Not her first not to nice comment. Glad my parents taught me manners. Thoughts and prayers. 🙏

Robbie, willow trees are remarkably resilient to hard pruning, it will grow back, not in the exact same shape but you don’t have to remove it unless the borer damage is too widespread, have a certified arborist assess it. You need to treat with a systemic insecticide every year to prevent further borer damage

My neighbors Willow lost a large section in a windstorm. They had an arborist come and cut it alot. I was amazed at how fast it came back. A year later it is back. Also I am stealing your stone mat idea.💜🌻

Limb structure is very important in trees. The limb that broke looks like it was just a poor angle or limb structure. Looks like two limbs came out growing very close together causing it to be weak. Those kinds of limb angles can be corrected when caught early. The holes look to be made by a yellow-bellied sap sucker. Most of the time not causing damage to trees. I have seen some severely "holed" trees, pecan, that did not cause the trees to suffer at all. Being a retired pecan grower, I have years of experience, grafting, tree training, storm cleanup and general care of trees. Just some information. Good luck.

So sorry about the willow tree - so heartbreaking!! However, try to look at the bright side, it didn't come down and hit the greenhouse. That would have been so much worse!! I am sure that you and Brent will come up with something to put in the spot that will be stunning. You both come up with such great ideas.

I'm so sorry to see the damage to the willow. I know it is disheartening for you. Between the wind, drought and now rain and thunderstorms here, I am thinking about how to get our garden back in order. The bitter cold we had this winter took out whole sections of my hydrangeas. I so looked forward to bringing in the pretty blossoms for arrangements. Mother Nature can throw us some punches. I know you will rebound in time.

I love those cobblestones!!! They brought the entrance to the greenhouse to a whole new level! Stroke of genius again! It's so sad to see you nurture your gorgeous willow tree for several years to become this amazing speciman and then a windy day takes down that huge chunk of it. It can be demoralizing.....sending empathy and positive vibes....we've all been there and it isn't fun!!!

Oh, not the Willow tree, it’s soooo pretty with its wispy branches. Losing it will really have an impact on the garden, shade to sun. Are you going to put another Willow in the same place?really like the concrete cobblestone mat. ❤ Bless your hearts, y’all keep going through all the problems, worm or bugs or critters that attack your garden. So sorry about the willow tree branch. That tree is so magical. I'm sure you're very upset as it's such a huge focal point in your garden but I'm sure whatever happens you will work your magic. Love the cobblestone tiles you put in front of your greenhouse entry. Great eye!
