Gary and Alan break down a dramatic final day of the Premier League season. West Ham tried their best to survive by beating Leeds 3-0, but it wasn't enough as Tottenham beat Everton to avoid relegation on the final day. So the Hammers are down for the first time in 14 years. Arsenal finally got their hands on the trophy after 22 years, with a record 19 goals from corners and 19 clean sheets. They covered Pep Guardiola's emotional final goodbye at City, Mohamed Salah's record-breaking Liverpool farewell, and Bruno Fernandes making assists history. And then there's Sunderland. Back in the top flight for one season and now heading to Europe for the first time in 53 years. Thomas Tuchel named his England World Cup squad. Cole Palmer, Jarrod Bowen, Morgan Gibbs-White, Phil Foden and Harry Maguire all left out. Gary and Alan talk through the big calls and pick who they would have taken instead. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Rest Is Football is powered by Fuse Energy. People keep saying it hasn't been a high standard league recently...but there's a team in every European cup final this year. Add this to the fact, Spurs now Villa, West Ham and Chelsea have all won European cups recently and Arsenal and Crystal Palace both have upcoming finals...means whatever you think of the standard, it's still the toughest league to win!
I’ve given up expectation that Villa will be talked about on this podcast. No mention of their Europa league win. No mention of their top 4 finish despite low investment. No mention of their win against city despite the team being jaded from their celebrations. No wonder Big Willie listens to the claret and blue podcast…
Shearer said the mags would beat Sunderland twice and finish above Sunderland ,how did that work out ?
"6 easy points" you said, Alan 😂
Love you guys, love the pod... but do you not think Villa and Unai Emery deserve more of a mention!?!? Great season despite significant injuries and psr restrictions... won a European trophy, champions league qualification and beat the second best team in the league on the final day with a team made up of bench players and hangovers!?! Not only beat City but played them off the park in that second half! Respect due don't you think?
11:19 Sunderland fans 🤍❤️🤍❤️
Arsenal winning was big for Prem League boomong abroad. Another City win would not move the needle much but Arsenals already large overseas base will attract millions of new fans. Arsenal red and white , a splash of new fresh colour
I love that whatever podcast you listen to, Villa are either not mentioned or the mention they get is glossed over in short shift. Which is staggering really considering the team they have, the financial constraints and the achievements they have made this season. All the other teams get their flowers, but you only needed to see the parade last week to see what a MASSIVE club they are. But as always…..kinda forgotten about. And in some ways, I’m fine with that. Unai is probably fine with that. Villa probably would get hardly a mention if we won the league. And that’s the way we like it. Still, content is content and to anyone outside of Villa, the other clubs are “bigger” in both size and draw for clicks, according to whoever produces these things. Yet us Villa fans will sit and bask in our own little pools of glory and enjoy the moment when nobody else gives a toss. Thanks guys! 🤗
I'm a Man United fan... but why so little love for Villa? Been outstanding, besides United, they have been the most improved
Listening to these two it's as if Aston Villa doesn't exist. It's not like we've just had the best season in our modern history or anything....
Aston villa,Bournemouth and lastly, but not least Sunderland are the teams that have impressed in addition to my beloved Arsenal. Very well done❤
CHAMPIONS OF ENGLAND! 🎉 COYG!!
It's a sad day for PL as a whole. So many legends: Pep, Bernardo, Stones, Salah, Casemiro have all managed/played their last game in PL.
I love this pod because it focused on what folk tune in to hear. Informed opinion, not match replays. Match replays can be found anywhere, insight not so much. Which is where MotD is falling down. That said, I can only assume you have a 30 minute special in progress detailing the achievements of Unai Emery at Aston Villa this season. From having his hands tied in the market, to early issues with the change in style he was implementing, to the predictions of doom coming from so many, to the fact that his team that was largely assembled by others managed to qualify for Champions League football - twice. A UEFA cup may not strike you as sexy. Coming 4th may not be the stuff of tabloid headlines. But for hundreds of thousands of Villa fans it is a phenomenal achievement, and for you to talk about the difficulties of managing both league and Euro campaigns, yet fail to mention Villa, has me wondering ....?
Not a mention for Villa, or Unai, Not a mention of the europa final, nor the win at Man city, I guess these pundits never watch football, they just read the script presented to them. UTV.
It's 4 points MORE than Leicester won it with Gary.... There's rage bait and then there's just lying
19.01 Haarland looks like Harry Enfield’s Kevin the teenager 😂
no villa talk?
Interesting the slight negativity towards the quality of the Premier League when PL clubs could well win all 3 European trophies!!
I think there might be quite a few arsenal fans that are secretly quite happy that Spurs ended up staying up. As funny as it would be for them to be relegated, the north London derby would be a big miss from the calender.
