Tell that to my stupid gym itβs a lot of 75-100% sparring
Big problems with a lot of gyms are too many egos
The key is balance. You can have both. Mostly light sparring but then some harder sparring to βsimulateβ a real fight.
Sparring is fixing ur fundamentals, not fighting like ur in a actual boxing match.
A lot of fighters left their careers in the gym from hard sparring 2 times a week.
I agree with this, but also there .ist be periods of hard sparring even if for small periods of time.
Boxers used to have 200 fights in their career makes no sense to hard spar youβll be in a ring with someone that wants to take your head off that month same thing with Muay Thai guys very active. But itβs hard to claim you wonβt get rusty as a ufc fighter fighting 2 times a year
This is coming from one of the best MMA coaches worldwide
Sparring is a simulation. If you're going hard, you aren't sparring. You're just fighting.
Watching him have this conversation with Sean Strickland would be goldπ
Traning is for before the fight, no need to hurt people. Form, conditioning, speed, accuracy. These are more important.
Thats why its important to have no ego when. Training
I could train at 57 but too many people at the gym just want to win in the room. No thanks.
Each School needs to have a safety video on sparing
Having sparred at Kronk in the 90's, I can honestly say they go way too hard and have too many wars in the gym.
"I'm Cuban, B." "Yes. Cuban B."
I remember when Sergio Martinez told us how much he sparred, compared to the average he only sparred 66 rounds in a full camp. It was designed to see how conditioning was at the beginning of camp and start formulating a plan, middle of the camp sparring becomes a bit more serious. At this point its working on small issues and tweaking the style and plan and the end sparring takes on executing the plan and making and perfecting the adjustments.

Thatβs why I tell people to stay away from those mega mcdojo type of gyms or franchised gyms theyβre almost always bs and even some reputable gyms are also since some will prioritize their main fighters if you want a good gym you gotta find a lowkey one that has reputable coaches
Common sense always sounds good
