How Much Diesel Was Hiding in My Old Machines?

With diesel prices being so high lately and a serious back injury keeping me away from heavy operator work for the foreseeable future (while I sit on a two-year surgery waiting list), it didn’t make much sense letting hundreds of litres of diesel sit in old machines slowly going stale. So, with some much-needed muscle from my son to handle the heavy fuel cans, we set out to drain the tanks from 9 old machines parked around the property. Because this fuel has been sitting for a while, it needed a proper clean before going anywhere near a road vehicle. To remove water, rust, and any rubbish, I ran the entire batch through a multi-stage filtration setup: 10 micron primary filter 5 micron CAV filter 2 micron final stage filter I also added some Biocide to the tank.. The result was clean, clear diesel ready to use, and a pretty satisfying saving at the pump.
